You can hem and haw about how many people wrote the Bible. I don't care. I believe that what I'm reading in the red lettering of the New Testament are the words of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
But Jesus didn't speak English. He also didn't write a single word in the Bible.
The Bible was written by men who heard a story from other men. Then it was translate by men to another language... more than once. And you still believe it is the verbatim truth and divine word of God. The fact is, it is the word of God filtered through the minds of a string of men. The only word of God that is the absolute truth would be the one in you head... not the one telling you to kill two more shots of Jaeger and go talk to the Russian bar girl with the big hooters.. the other voice.
You can believe what you want Scoota. That's your God-given right.
“The more I study science the more I believe in God.” -- Albert Einstein
As can you. If you can't defend your beliefs and prefer to put you hands over your ears while shouting "I can't hear you nya nya nya!" That is also your constitutionally assured right. I don't believe I have ever seen a passage in the Bible where God guarantees the right to free speech... if you know of it feel free to enlighten me.
Do you believe the Bible is word for word... the un-corrupted or misinterpreted word of God?
"Liberals believe government should take people's earnings to give to poor people. Conservatives disagree. They think government should confiscate people's earnings and give them to farmers and insolvent banks. The compelling issue to both conservatives and liberals is not whether it is legitimate for government to confiscate one's property to give to another, the debate is over the disposition of the pillage."
KaiineTN wrote:Fair? Mindia, you bring up fairness? You're talking about brainwashing children into believing in Christ, manipulating their minds at an early state. If you argue fairness, you have to show them every damn religion, otherwise how is it fair to the child? A child can make the decision, yes, but it will be strongly influenced by the people and situations that child is exposed to, which is strictly controlled by the parent, usually.
If a child makes the decision to believe in Christ or even become a Christian, and you never, I'll use your words again here, gave them the "opportunity" to believe in another set religion, how is that possibly fair to the child? You leave them with one belief to grow up on, by the time they are old enough to really choose for themselves, they believe too strongly in Christ because of you forcing your beliefs on them. It's basically telling the child, "here, believe this, what I believe, or believe nothing."
OMG. No. Brainwashing the child is NOT letting them have the opportunity to know Jesus. That is atheistic brainwashing. It probably happened to some of you.
I just love how you ignored the whole point of my initial post: you bringing up fairness, and in turn directly misinterpreted what I was trying to get across to you and used a misguided understanding to come up with a pathetic reply. What I was saying is that if you teach a child about Jesus, then you must teach him about Bhuda, Allah, and countless other religious figures as well as the beliefs behind them, or you can't even begin to argue fairness.
I hope you have a stroke and lose all religious knowledge so you can come back and read your posts and see how much a close minded idiot you come off as. I think that's the only way you'll ever understand how most of the NT population sees you.

PS. Lourdes, np <3
I think you are missing the point of this thread. My entire point was to show people that hearfelt poem/prayer the child wrote, and how I concur. Liberalism is bad... in my opinion. You guys have done nothing but try to correct my opinion for 8 pages. It's not working, in case you haven't noticed. People that walk around flaunting their tattoos and body piercings are nothing but attention whores, and they did it because they care more for a musician/pop idol than God. That is sad.
for the record (and i think you know this) i'm not trying to change your opinion. i'm trying to get you to realize that the ways in which you choose to project your opinions in this thread are sadly unbecoming of a disciple of any religion, let alone one that holds the teachings of jesus at its core.
Leviticus 19:28 "Do not make any tatoo marks on your skin. I am God."
No word mentioning piercings, because at that time pierced ear was a sign of a person who willingly sold himself into slavery for life.
I was kinda trying to back up your point on appearance untill this:

"Nobody comes to the Father, but by Me."
Like I said earlier... just because YOU don't believe in Jesus does not make it right for you to deny your child(ren) the opportunity to get to know Christ.
That is YOUR opinion. No one is between me and God, and i do not need 2000 year old jew to lead me to Father. He never said anything more important or profound than alot of other rabbis of his time: Akiva, Yosif Lili etc... And my future children do not need YOUR religion to be with God ether.
Mindia, I only have a single question. What are you trying to accomplish in this thread? Answer that, and then go back and read all of the judgmental, hate-filled things you've said in this... read all of the condemning thoughts, the 'cursing', the insults and all of the evil-hearted verbiage. What is your end-goal? To bring people to Christ? Is this the way you plan to go about doing this? Do you honestly think that by this example, people will want to follow you?
I'll ask again - What are you trying to accomplish here?

He's not going to answer your question, dude.

To share a poem that he feels is moving, and show that liberalism is bad.
I personally find it offensive when people force their religion on others. I find god in my own way and so do other. I could live a perfect life but because I think jesus was just another jew, as ganzo said, saying the same things others were saying at the time, I am wrong in your eyes.
I'm glad you found Jesus and you feel at peace with your spirituality, but fuck you and the arogant horse you rode in on.
Hey Vonk, about that Ignore function I would like to hcange my vote to yes we need one, as I personally after this thread think Mindia has absolutly nothing to offer to this board other than his one sided I am write you are wrong religion based politics.

There goes typical Sarthis... ranting on and on about something which he knows nothing about. Go away little boy.
I post so rarely in this forum that I can't help but wonder exactly how you've pulled that out of your ass. 4 years of Catholic school and 2 years of religious study in college really gives me what I call an informed opinion.
How about an intelligent discussion rather than dismissing a 22 year old who is finished with college as a little boy.
So often fundamentalists resort to name calling without substance rather than backing up their points with fact and substance.

Why is it not appropriate for someone to press their Christian beliefs on others, yet it seems to be perfectly acceptable to press one's atheistic/agnostic beliefs on others?
I see no end of people telling Mindia that he's stupid or "wrong" for believing in God... yet very very few comments saying how that is HIS right to believe what he will. You guys are hypocrits for telling him to keep his values to himself since in the same breath you feel the need to demand he respect yours.
Or does that not all matter because you're "right"? /sarcasm OFF
It was January, 1963 When Johnny came home with a gift for me He said I bought it for you because I love you And I bought it for you because it's your birthday, too He was so very nice, he was so very kind To think of me at this point in time I used to think of him, he used think of me He told me to close my eyes My gift would be a great surprise I saw tears were in his eyes He never meant to hurt me Oh, God, Johnny, don't point that gun at me There's so many ways our lives have changed But please, I beg, don't do this to me Johnny, don't point that gun at me Can I save my life at any price? For God's sake won't you listen to me?
And though he was ashamed that he had took a life Johnny came home with another wife And he often remembered how it used to be Before that special occasion, 1963 There was too many ways that you could kill someone Like in a love affair, when the love is gone He told me to close my eyes My gift would be a great surprise I saw hatred in his eyes He never meant to hurt me Oh, God, Johnny, don't point that gun at me There's so many ways our lives have changed But please, I beg, don't do this to me Johnny, you keep on using me Can I change my life for any price? Oh, Johnny, won't you listen to me?

I just want you to be mine, I don't want this world to shine I don't want this bridge to burn Oh, Johnny, do you miss me? I just want to feel for you I will always feel for you...
