Ginzburg - that is precisely the kind of crap that is nothing but incendiary to a debate like this. Isn't this thread out of control enough?

And I'm just saying, if Mindia is basing his life on what he thinks are the "literal" teachings of the new testament, then he's wasted his life.

And wtf, why am I not aloud to share my opinion with someone who is trying to shove his beliefs down peoples throats.

And if my "your faith is based on lies" comment makes him feel uneasy, maybe he'll know what it feels like to be the buddhist, athiest, jewish (or one or 100 other beliefs) who has to listen to Catholics constantly trying to assimilate everyone. They are coercing our children (at an impressionable age) into reciting an "under god" line every morning before doing what they are suppose to be doing...

Yes - that was the line I was speaking of.

Yes - "incendiary" is a nice word. I know a few more I might share with you if you continue to show yourself worthy of the education.

Vonkaar - If I were to sum up the liberal point of view into a single sentence it would have to be:

"I believe that society is responsible for the individual."

If I had to sum up the conservative point of view:

"I believe that the individual is responsible for the individual."

Uhh... it's not the Catholics doing it. Catholics create their own schools and charge tuition for you to be taught their style of education. They're perfectly happy running their own system.

Might want to check your facts there, Tiger.

Wrong. If you don't want your kid saying the pledge, then put your kid in a private atheist school. How does that sound?

Since you obviously haven't read every post in this thread, I'm going to repeat myself: I believe in the Old and New Testament. But let's just say for argument's sake that I did only follow the New Testament. In what capacity would I be wasting my life away?

I do agree with Ginzburg here, the law states seperation of church and state. If it is a public school, the state supports that, and sorry to say, they should keep religion out of school. This all started when I was back in high school, and we still had daily prayer around the flagpole. It wasn't required, it something we chose to do, and the school did not stop this. Kids go to school to learn. I know some of you have made comments about, yeah right, schools dont teach shit, but realistically, there are some GREAT schools out there. My son is in a public school that is amazing!! While it wouldn't matter to me if he said the pledge of allegiance including "UNDER GOD" it might insult others, and why is it that the schools must cater to one and not the other? On the flip side, school officials should be more worried about making sure kids make the grade, don't go Columbine, are more involved with extra curricular activities then fighting to get 2 words taken out of the pledge of allegiance.

Most hardcore Catholics (and one can only assume you are one) live their lives according the (literal) teachings of the New Testament. Those teachings were founded on false information and for all the wrong reasons. 1700 years later, you adhere to what you think is the literal history of a very well edited fairy tale.

Ginzburg - there's no way in hell that Mindia is Catholic. Based on your couple statements in this thread, I really think you have a misunderstanding about Christianity, Catholicism, and the relation between them - as well as the influences the Protestants and Catholics each leverage.

You seem to be badly informed about Catholicism in general.

Not to bring up a topic from pages back, but really Minda could you have found a more biased source on body modification? It has a link that says think body piercing is cool? CHECK THIS OUT! and then shows pictures from the MOST EXTREME of situations. Stapling, and self suspension are not on the everyday list for most people. Try to find a source that shows perhaps how a nice tasteful tattoo or peircing look. Argue your case without so much bias bullshit, I have always tried to meet you on a level ground with no biases.

But don't you think that as a "citizen" there is a small amount of sacrifice that needs to be made in order to live in harmony with the other 300 million (?) people that live in the country with you? Isn't that what a "society" is?
