Devout or not, Catholics are expected to regard the teachings of the New Testament as literal history.

Every religion does it. Buddha was born of a lotus flower, the navajo indian emerged from a hole in the ground in the black hills region of North Dakota. I'm not saying that people can't have faith in the teachings of their religion, however I will always object to those who try to tell me that they are right and I am wrong. And I will always object to those same people who try to project their views through public channels in an environment that caters to the general population.

No, because too many wackos would hurt other people with that philosophy. Too many people already engage in the "If it feels good, do it" philosophy.

In 2000 years people will laugh at the religions of today, just as now we laugh at the Greeks and their crazy gods.

You seem to be badly informed about Catholicism in general.

Touche ~ I don't really know what the differences are. I was referring to the new testament. You can put Christian in place of Catholic and it'll be the same thing.

Funny you bring that up, just had a conversation the other day about that with Adivina.

Well lets keep religion around considering we have such a shortage of "wackos hurting other people" now. I mean...it never happens.

And I apologize, this was a debate about whether relgion should be allowed in a public school system, not whether it's history is credible. So I'll drop it and stay on the ball if we're going to continue.

Tossica wrote:But don't you think that as a "citizen" there is a small amount of sacrifice that needs to be made in order to live in harmony with the other 300 million (?) people that live in the country with you? Isn't that what a "society" is?

A society is made up of individuals. It is a conglomeration of all things that the individuals are and affect. It is not, by definition, a welfare state. Nor is it a humanistic "adventure" into experiencing one's id to it's fullest capacity. An individual certainly has a responsibility to society - but not as a caretaker, rather, as a participant.

Society is made up of not only the good, but the bad and ugly. One of the best things about the American society is the freedoms we are given... however, one of the worst things about our society is the abuse or misuse of these freedoms.

Society must have rules. In the basest form, these are mores. These are the philosophies like "killing others is bad" or "hurting children is bad". Most of the mores do have more to do with what actions are NOT acceptable... that's the very nature of a less restrictive environment.

To put it into computer lingo... you don't apply a Global Deny and then add Priviledges... you apply a Global Allow and then piecemeal the denied rights. Such is the way of social mores.

I believe in following these mores and the laws that are created by our government. If my government feels that it is in society's best interest for me to pay taxes so as to fund an entitlement program for drug-addicts (for example)... well, I will pay my taxes. Next time elections come up, I vote for a candidate that will hopefully act in MY interests. This isn't a democracy, so I can't say that MY voice will be heard. I can only hope that my representative in government will carry out the promises that gets him/her elected.

Roman Catholics are cultists, imo. Imo they do a great many things that go against what the Bible teaches. Imo, they have added books to the Bible that did not belong there, and they don't even flow with the rest of Scripture. Imo, "Transubstantiation" is a wicked practice. Imo, the practice of confession of your sins to anybody but the Lord, such as an intercessory or intermediary such as a "priest," is blasphemous, vile and wicked. Imo, kneeling down and praying in front of a statue is idolatry. There are many other things they do that are scary, IMO.

Except in the 300s AD there lived a Michael Moore type person who took the entire bible and edited we can only see what they want us to see.

So there is no flow with the scripture.

And considering the new direction of the thread, I take back what I said about "staying on the ball".

Sorry

I know that this is something I'll get over
Maybe I can learn to love another

It's just a matter of time
A matter of time

Just because
I lock myself in my room
It doesn't mean that I'm afraid to talk to
Those people I know that might have seen you

No return
I keep reminding myself
I won't look back, won't regret a single moment
I'm gonna mend this heart inside you broken

It's just a matter of time
A matter of time
It's just a matter of time
A matter of time

Show me the way, they say safety in numbers
I lift up my eyes to the sky
And imagine a crowd of hearts that surround me
And give me the courage to die

Were you to weep and lie soft at my feet
Then you'd wash all my troubles away
And imagine the host of angels around me
That give me the courage to die

omg, I cry now. :depressed:

Down town the young ones are going
Down town the young ones are growing

We're the kids in America, Whoo-ooh
Everybody live for the music-go-round

Bright lights, the music gets faster
Look boy, don't check on your watch
Not another glance
I'm not leaving now, honey not a chance

Hot-shot, give me no problems
Much later baby you'll be saying never mind
You know life is cruel, life is never kind

Kind hearts don't make a new story
Kind hearts don't grab any glory

Come closer, honey that's better
Got to get a brand new experience
Feeling right
Oh don't try to stop baby
Hold me tight

Outside a new day is dawning
Outside Suburbia's sprawling everywhere
I don't want to go baby
New York to east California
There's a new wave coming I warn you

We're the kids
We're the kids
We're the kids in America.
We're the kids
We're the kids
Kkkkids in America.
