Imo, the practice of confession of your sins to anybody but the Lord, such as an intercessory or intermediary such as a "priest," is blasphemous, vile and wicked. Imo, kneeling down and praying in front of a statue is idolatry. There are many other things they do that are scary, IMO.

Tell you what. You open the Bible and show me where it says to confess your sins to the Lord through another person, an intercessory, to get your sins "absolved." While you're at it, show me in the Bible where it talks anything of a "purgatory." Oh, and by the way... show me where it says in the Bible that kneeling down before statues and praying is permitted. Do some research on "Transubstantiation." Catholics put Jesus back on the cross every "Mass." Jesus already died on the cross for our sins... It never has to be done again, yet the Roman Catholics put Him on the cross again each and every Sunday. Then when you're done researching all that, also find out why the priest thinks he is converting the little wafer into the ACTUAL body of Christ, and the wine into the ACTUAL blood of Christ, and that the recipient has to actually believe they are receiving the actual body and blood of Christ. I'll give you some help with this last one... IT WAS MEANT TO BE SYMBOLIC, NOT ACTUAL. Jesus said, "This is my body, broken for you... do this often in remembrance of me." Then he lifted the cup and said, "This is my blood, shed for you... do this often in remembrance of me." It is all about symbolism.

Run along now little boy. You have some homework to do.

Here is another prime example of you saying your religion is right and his is wrong.

No it's not. Did you not read it??? wtf?

I told him to do some research on it. Guess what? Unless he writes things down in the Bible, he's not going to find what I asked him to research. That's a fact, not me being opinionated and saying my religion is right and his is wrong...

You are saying what is in YOUR bible is the only right thing. Maybe a catholic doesn't believe in YOUR bible.

Well, you're partially right at least. They believe in a Bible that has a section of books contained in it called the "Apocrypha" which was put into the Bible by the Catholic church ans was not part of the original Bible. That's why Martin Luther pulled those books out... because he knew that they were bullshit.

I don't understand what the big argument here is. Mindia, you asked for some quote proof of you saying that another religion is wrong. You were provided with a quote from yourself where you stated that Roman Catholics were cultists and that their practices are blasphemous, vile and wicked.

Now, you can think that if you'd like. Nobody here is arguing that Roman Catholics are not, in fact, vile and wicked and blasphemous at this time. However, you can't possibly deny that you are stating that Roman Catholism is wrong.

At least admit it and not turn around a few pages later and try to say that you aren't belittleing anybody else's faith.

I know alot more about religion than you think. I was brought up a Baptist, changed to a Pentecostal, and spent months researching and studying the Jehovah's Witness faith. I form my own opinions, I do not let what the Bible, which is translated in many different ways to each religion dictate my every move, as you do not either. I take opinions from many different religions and I make my own decision. Am I a sinner? Yes. Do I live my life like a Christian should? No, not always. But I know what is right and what is wrong, and you don't see me doing anything other than stating my opinion. You on the other hand make yourself sound like your religion is the one and only religion that is correct. Take a step back and realize this, then come back and try again. I may look retarded to you, but you look retarded to everyone else.

I express my feelings about my own religion as opinion. Go back and read my posts. You cannot argue fact though. What the Catholics did, and currently do is a fact, not Mindia's opinion.

Since I seem to be the only person on this board that has any clue about the Catholic religion, despite plenty of people (including the poster I quoted above) *thinking* they know what the fuck they're talking about, I will respond to this stupidity.

It is not the Catholic belief that you *must* confess your sins to a priest. It is a sacrament - meaning that it is a Holy Rite of the Church... as is Holy Matrimony, Last Rites, Communion, Holy Orders, etc. It is nearly impossible for a person to participate in every sacrament. Simply because you didn't does not imply you're going to hell. Furthermore, you're not being forgiven for your sins by the Priest, he is acting as an intermediary for God - as a Pastor of his church shepherding his flock, so to speak. The entire rite of Confession is not about you visiting the Priest - it is about opening a dialogue with your Pastor to provide you guidance and advice into how you can attempt to remove sin from your life and keep to the course of holiness. Too many people don't understand that and think that the Priest has some special "power" to forgive sin. He does not. God does. It is acceptable and encourage for all Catholics to pray regularly to God and ask forgiveness for their sins... it is NOT mandatory to do so "through" a priest.

Catholics do not practice idolatry. The cross on some Protestant's necklace is no different than the statues of Christ in a Catholic church. They are meant to be focal objects to help remind us of the sacrifices that Christ made and the existence of God. You don't pray to your necklace any more than a Catholic prays to a statue of Christ - they both pray to God who is symbolized by those objects.

Catholics do not "put him on the cross every Sunday" (what a stupid, ignorant fucking comment)... no more than Protestants. Catholic Mass is focused on the sacrifice that Christ made to make it possible for all to have a path to eternal life with God. To lose sight of that sacrifice is to take our very salvation for granted.

Transubstantiation is exactly that: the conversion of the bread and wine into the actual Body and Blood of Christ. The priest doesn't perform some "magic" that makes it happen - God, himself, brings about the change. This is probably the most difficult thing any non-Catholic can understand or accept, yet it is fundamental in the core beliefs of Catholics. If you have issue with this, then I'm not going to argue with you. Either you have the faith to believe it, or you don't. If you don't... more power to you.

As far as the books of the Apocrypha go... who is Martin Luther to decide which books are "right" and which are "wrong". Frankly, I could say that Song of Solomon is borderline porn and has no place in the Bible... as do many others. Does that mean that that book of the Bible is heresy simple because I, a human with my own opinions, believe it to be so? The book of Revelations was (supposedly) written by John the Apostle... that's a pretty darn good source for scripture, frankly. Maybe you remember John... he was called the "beloved of Christ" and "Christ's favorite". Not really a good source of heresy if you were to ask me.

Really Mindia, you claim to be so well aware and educated about these matters - to the point that you feel that you can belittle and ridicule others. However, you know very little more than they do. If you recall, Pride is one of the seven cardinal (deadly) sins. You might take a moment to consider this Bible passage (which, by the way, is from the gospels and therefore doesn't fall into your heresy category, I would suppose):

Mathew 7:5 wrote:Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

If your goal here is to educate and evangelize, you're doing a piss poor job of it. If your goal here is to attack, flame, and contend over topics related to your religion, you're doing a piss poor job of it. If, however, your goal here is to make yourself look like an ass and hide behind a faith that you regularly besmirch by your own words and actions, you're doing super! Keep it up!

Oh, and one more thing, regarding the Catholic Church adding books to the Bible that "do not belong"... you might want to ask a Jewish person his thoughts on that... your entire "New Testament" was added in much the same way - yet that's OK, right?

He also pulled the book of Revelations out. Who's to say what the "original" Bible contained? Since you accept that 97% of the New Testament was altered by man, why is Luther any more holy than Clemente? Who gets to decide what is holy and what isn't? If you have absolute faith in YOUR Bible, and faith is good enough for YOU to justify the spotty history of the abridgments, why is faith not good enough for a Catholic?

Mindia

People are offended by you, because you adamantly claim to be "right" and that they are "wrong." I think most people on this board would agree that someone's religious beliefs are a personal matter. That doesn't mean that you can't talk about God or Jesus here, it seemed most were cool with it when you first came back.

However, since coming back, you maintain the "I'm right" and "you're wrong" attitude, which may make God allow you to skip waiting in line at the pearly gates for being so dedicated, but I don't think he wants you to offend people.

At this point, you are offending me. You are why christians have a bad name, unfortunately. You have no right whatsoever to tell anyone what the "right" religion is. Roman Catholic, Jewish, whatev...you are not the alpha and omega. What YOU know is what YOU believe to be true, and that is admirable in my book. What isn't admirable, and is rather unattractive and offensive, is your rampant goings-on about what your personal beliefs are and how they are the only way, and that every other religion has it wrong, and not to mention the ridiculous talks about piercings and tattoos. In case you weren't aware, the OT is over 2000 years old. Quite a bit out of date, wouldn't you agree? Do you really think, that God, almighty as he is, really cares whether or not you have a tattoo or piercing? I for one, believe that God probably has come along in the times with us. If you don't believe that, and you think it's a sin to have markings on your body, that is fine. You cannot offend people though, and expect them to respect what you are saying.

Listen to me--your beliefs are the only way for YOU. Understand that spreading the word is one thing, informing the uninformed, etc...all what God asks you do. Awesome. You are not doing this. You are arguing, debating, taking God and your religion and making it into arguments and name-calling events. I dont' think that was God's intention when he said "spread the word."

I have a serious problem with people feeling the need to declare their faith with the stance of "I have information that you don't, that makes me smarter than you, and in a better position for lifetime." This is true for athiests and people of any faith.

Good, great for you. I am very happy that you believe in what you do.
Why can't you just accept that you can't change people? It says in the Bible that man does not come to Jesus except through Jesus. It doesn't say that "mindia spreads the word on message boards and this makes everyone repent."
