I thought AMEX had no limit as long as it's paid off every month.

Amex has limits. If you spend to much they lock the card and give you hell about it. My limit is about 20k.

That's what they want you to think. They set an arbitrary limit at where they think you can pay base on your history. If your credit is good and you dont have big ass debts, eventually they will raise the limit.
