Given the overwhelming amount of insults flung on this board it amazes me that anyone could have a problem with any certain one. It almost sounds like a cop-out to silence an opinion you have a problem with. I can understand banning someone for condoning hate crimes, etc, but simply using a derogatory slang term like that or kike, wop, bitch, etc should fall safely into the sticks and stones arsenal to whoever chooses to use them.
How is one insult any worse than the other? Ban someone for using a derogatory term? That is just rediculous.

I actually have no problem with well-delivered insults directed at an individual. In fact, that sort of thing is what attracted me to the board to begin with. What I dislike is broad-based terms that affect an entire group of people, where, with only one or two exceptions, none of them is present to defend themselves / be defended. You can call me a cracker, and it's different. The reason is that I'm right here to call you white-trash.

I find it rather amusing that this type of argument is on NT. I mean, since when do people on NT care about what insults are being thrown out? Grantd, I know it has been years since I was on the board before, but come on..... so far it seems to come off as just argueing for the sake of argueing. No one is going to be able to convince the other they are wrong, so what's the point. How bout if the word bothers you so much to just ignore it? Seems to be the most logical explanation to me.

You have me pegged wrong. I speak my mind regardless, but I am not stupid. I obviously don't use it around them but for a different reason. Lawyers have made it profitable as hell to overhear me saying it whether you're offended or not. The employees I oversee use the word more than any racist white person ever could in one day, and that's by members of that race. (Not referring to the common "hood" slang use, I'm talking in derogatory ways from the mouths of black people.)
To me, the word refers to not just any black person, but rather an extremely undesirable member of any race. If that offends any others of that race, that's their problem.
Come up with a similar name for the undesirable shitheads of the white race and you can use it all you want. I won't cry nor will I demand you be censored or banned for using it.
I won't even milk some ancient historic reason for why you shouldn't use it when all other reasons seem flakey, either. Honest.

None of this has any bearing on a country that kept generations of people enslaved due to their skin color, and to the continued use of a word that at it's core is a stark reminder of the failure of our country for over 100 years to have common sense and decency.
I find it equally offensive when anyone of any race uses the word, to be honest. I wish it wasn't used by so many uneducated people who do not really comprehend the true history of the word.
I personally dislike any racial slur, but this one has been made taboo in our culture due to America's past actions.
Equivocating it with other countries misdeeds is not a good representation of why it isn't a big deal. Comparing the fact we only enslaved a few million negros, and saying that's nothing compared to killing millions of Jews, so slurs shouldn't be a big deal to me doesn't hold water.
