Should the N word be filtered, or not

The poll is self explanatory. I'll be monitoring who votes, to ensure things are kosher. This is a yes and no question.

In normal situations there should be no need for censorship, but the children on NT need boundaries it seems.

Again, I'm pretty much anti censorship for anything. I can count on one hands the times I've changed any posts over the last few years, despite outrageously juvenile behavior at times.

However, maybe it's the fact I'm a bit older, but for me that word represents everything that was wrong and sinister in America in the 60s/50s and when segregation and overt racism were a big problem, not just the subtle tones we have today.

I'll admit I really have an issue with the word, but try and just let it slide. If it's just me, then I'll remove the filter and let it fly.

The only reason people use it is because they KNOW its taboo. There should be no need to use it under any circumstance so why not censor it.

That or remove the filter and ban Taxx.

don't we have some forums that are supposed to be moderated?

in everything else for example i don't think anything should be but I have no problems at all with it being cut out in the rest of the forums. I do think changing it to taxx is a bit retarded though

All of them except EE are supposed to be moderated, and people abide by the NT rules

The rules were moreso for when NT had a ton of people, playing EQ or discussing games. We have one new person arrive per year. The draconian ruleset doesn't apply, in my opinion.

Since we solely have a small group that post here, I'll be cool with whatever is voted upon.

Then do your job as an admin and revamp the rules to suit a smaller group. It's quite simple. Censor in certain areas and not in others. I know you have a job and a kid and all that but if you don't have time to admin and moderate the board then maybe you should cut down on the witty filters and picture post editing and spend 5 minutes on the rules while taking another 5 to read posts and edit as required.

As a followup, just a few variations of the N word are covered by the word filter. It is bypassable, but the main gist is covered.

I wish there was a "I don't care" option. Cause, frankly, it doesn't matter either way to me. I do not like the word in the least, but I also do not like censorship, and can ignore the word. But, I know not everyone will or can ignore stuff like that. /shrug

I know I am new around here, so I hope my opinion isnt looked at and tossed aside, but I would say if it will keep the community quiet and calm, then yes, censoring the word may be a good idea.

I've decided it's a good idea as long as we can get to declare our race in our profile. If someone chooses african descent they can use the N word. ect. We could make this interesting for the azn folks also! haha. Better yet, lets go all the way and make it so only caucasians can use the word cracker!

Why not even go FURTHER and declare sexual orientation!!! Only the faggots can say fag without being bleeped.

Censorship like this does not improve anything.
