The country has been making a lot of very poor military choices for a long time though, which is something I don't respect. The army should exist to defend the country, thats all.
That sounds very good in theory Yamori, now apply it to defending our country against another terrorist attack and how the military can defend our country then.

Joining the US Military is 100% voluntary. Arlos brought up the point that reservists that singed up but never expected to have to actually serve in combat arent too happy about it. Guess what? Thats their own fault, thus I have no sympathy. By saying "Everyone in Iraq signed up to be there" is pretty straight forward, you joined the military on your own free will... shit happens... like war wether you agree with it or not.
So, again, are you somehow under the impression that the military recruits individuals for specific conflicts? Or that Bush was planning the Iraq war twenty years ago?
If not, your statement is asinine. Only a small portion of the military signs up to serve in a specific conflict, and they don't serve a specific political administration. A soldier who enlisted in 1990 certaintly didn't sign up to be in Iraq. The alternative is that you simply don't feel any sympathy for the men and women who signed up to defend their country, regardless of how they're jerked around by politicians, like say in Mogadishu.
Then you jump around like a fool, and try to make it out like im not makin sense?
Funny how you haven't been able to answer the objections raised then, eh?
What in the fuck is so hard for you to understand?
You sign up for whatever reason, at whatever time. None of that is relevent to my point. The fact of the matter is, if you sign up... you should be fully aware that your country may have to call upon you. Thats something every single person that signs their name should understand. So yes, anyone who volunteers their services to the military gets no sympathy from me. Keep on talking in circles like youre proving some point against me Xao.

Im dense, I need it explained again. How does invading and occupying Iraq, a weak, embargoed, successfully contained, non-radical islamic middle eastern country help defend us against terrorism?

The topic is all over other threads mofish, and my statement wasn't aimed specifically at Iraq or any other country for that matter, so I ask that we don't derail this by rehashing it here.
I was not being sarcastic when I said that the idea sounded good, I meant it. As with most ideals however implementation in the real world is problematic. The problem is very well illustrated where terrorisim is concerned, because the attack does not come in the form of a strait up military confrontation. If you take "defend the country" to only mean staying at home and repelling attacks on our homeland, and any forien deployment or attacks as being outside of this realm, then you would be very hard pressed to repel terrorist attacks such as they are. I'm sorry but a complete defensive attitude will not work. The old saying sometimes the best defense is a good offense does apply. If you look at the whole situation concerning terrorisim, I think the only realistic way to defend against any attack is to flat out prevent it in the first place. In the end the logical conclusion is that to effectively defend the country we must eliminate the threat before it reaches us, and this means offensive action.

I get a bit upset when they treat those people defending and fighting in this country like total shit. Here is a scoop there commy... you know the reason why you can spill your amount of retardation on a forum? quite simple...because of those soldiers.
Dont think for a instant if we did not have a military we would be sitting here having a conversation. If we did it would be arabic or chinese. So you dont agree with the war...do you spit on the soldiers you see in public? If you dont like what those soldiers and this country stands for you can always leave. I hear the rice paddies in Hanoi are always looking for new workers. .
And yes there are times when my writing is a bit incoherrent. the main reason why is because I work for a living and have little time to retort to stupidity such as yours. If I do retort it is usually standing up or between network runs. So time is a bit crunched down for me. If for some reason that makes you think that I am less of a 'man' than you are...or even less inteligent than you are, fine. Your opinion means about the same to me as dog squeeze.
Frankly Im not going to lecture you and teach you the respect your parents failed to instill in you. By your age you could be considered a hopeless cause. Jeez you are about as brain dead as Garg on 6 bottles of NYQUIL. Let me guess you came real close to being named moonbeam or some other stupid name.

Drem, I would have no problem with putting a bullet in your head. It would make me fucking happy. You're a perfect example of Americans having too much freedom. Fuck you

But if you think that way, the only way to truely be safe would be to take over the world, having every world organization under your controle.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

Regarding "Flyby honoring fallen comrade" (Letters, June 28):
I read with increasing embarrassment and humility the response to my unfortunate letter to The Republic concerning an Air Force flyby ("A wake-up call from Luke's jets," Letters, June 23).
I had no idea of the significance of the flyby, and would never have insulted such a fine and respectful display had I known.
I have received many calls from the fine airmen who are serving or have served at Luke, and I have attempted to explain my side and apologized for any discomfort my letter has caused.
This was simply an uninformed citizen complaining about noise.
I have been made aware in both written and verbal communications of the four-ship flyby, and my heart goes out to each and every lost serviceman and woman in this war in which we are engaged.
I have been called un-American by an unknown caller and I feel that I must address that. I served in the U.S. Navy and am a Vietnam veteran. I love my country and respect the jobs that the service organizations are doing.
Please accept my heartfelt apologies.

i was gonna say, i bet there were TONS of people pissed about the flyby, because just like him they had no idea what it was for. Tom MacRae was just the one guy mouthy enough to write a letter about it

Taken to an extreme yes, extreme either side is bad news .
