Does a sealed booster draft deck include the exact same cards for everyone or is everyone playing the odds and hoping for a good deck to start with?

As Arlos mentioned you don’t all have the same deck but you have the same chance of making a deck. Everyone has three booster packs and you each open one and choose a card from it and pass the remaining pack to the person next to you. There’s obviously a certain amount of luck especially with your first pick from your first pack but I find it to be an insanely strategic game format. The price of admission into the tournament is usually the price of 3 booster packs so really you get what you put into it. Most hobby shops put on these tournaments as a way to sell boosters but it’s a very interesting format. It’s a bit unforgiving for beginners though, since you really have to be familiar with the cards from the set you’re drafting from and you need to know the game implication of each card you draft.

i wouldn't ever play them because the collection aspect does not appeal to me at all, though

Which really has nothing to do with the discussion at hand (whether the game is more or less strategic then hearts) aside from demonstrating why you would have an inherent bias to dislike the game to begin with because of another reason which I don't think you fully understand. MTG does have a financial commitment of say 20 to 50 dollars a deck. If this is simply more then you’re willing to invest in a card game then I totally get that. But this isn't a pokemon game where people just buy packs in the hopes of collecting them all. I don't know anyone who treats the game that way. Everyone I know just buys the singles online that they want.

right, i picked up on that too

please shut up long enough to understand that i have no intention to further rag on CCGs now that i understand them better :boots:

*shrug* A simple "no" wouldn't have given anything like the complete picture, even if it is technically the correct answer to both halves of Tossica's question.

i'm playin dead space now. love it. much more my style of outer space than mass effect type stuff

and after checking out the first assassin's creed i think: ac1 does stealth/assassin stuff better (there's no eavesdropping or pickpocketing like that in ac2) and has the chase cam. ac1 has a grittier feel. has more brotherhood interaction, and altair looks/is a lot more badass than ezio.

but ac2 has all the customization, a better climbing mechanic, better locales, and more variety of missions. or rather, more variety of main quest missions

yeah dead space owns even though it's scary as fuck

it's also actually a challenging game, which imo is a rarity these days

and re: AC, you're spot on. kinda wish they'd done the games backwards-- do all the bullshit with ezio, get their stripes, learn from their mistakes, then BOOM knock it completely out of the park with the altair story

because let's face it, the crusades AC1 plot with AC2's polish would obliterate just about any other console game out there

you could call it resident evil in space as far as mechanics but for some reason it still feels really original and i don't mind at all that it plays exactly like and has the same camera angle as RE4

it's really engrossing searching for all the logs etc

I can't play games like that. I feel stupid enough that I die, even in super mario.

I don't need my poor unsuspecting dude getting wtfpwned and his head lopped off or arms ripped out. Thats why I like stuff like Uncharted. Same gameplay but when you die you just die, nothing dramatic!

Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, Fallout New Vegas and Fable 3 in October. Goodbye social life. It was nice while it lasted.

i liked fable, it's a solid action/rpg game and all the voice actors sound like extras from the movie Hot Fuzz

they never ported the sequel to PC though (and i don't own an xbox)

Fable 1 was honestly much more deep and overall better. Fable 2 was good, but it felt lacking compared to the first.

I loved them both. Awesome games. My save game on Fable 2 got corrupted and I lost like 40+hrs of game time. I was so disgusted, I haven't played it again.

I've been playing way too much Mount and Blade: Warband; great game. Looking forward to some Fallout: New Vegas next month. Hardcore mode sounds fantastic and hopefully Obsidian doesn't release the game loaded with bugs (a la KOTOR 2). Alpha Protocol was a fun game as well, zero bugs/issues during my playthrough.
