Vanguard Beta 1 is about to start too (they just finished Beta 0 which was Friends and Family only). It's small and they are only offering applications to the long-time registrants on their forum (so far at least).

I'm one of those long time registrants... at least I've been a member of the board for the past 2 years.

Make sure your email on there is current. On Friday about 170 emails went out (to the 170 longest members). I haven't checked today for who has received them.

I got my early beta sign up for Vanguard, but they are still in early Alpha.

I disagree, Tikker. Much like WOW, the D&D name alone will sell a lot of copies. I'll give my serious impressions once the NDA is lifted, which probably won't be anytime soon.

I just don't think D&D will translate to the masses in a MMO format

I'm pretty sure they said they are starting Beta 1 in a week or two. You heard otherwise?

Last I'd heard they sent out 1000 e-mails to the first 1000 people registered on the Vanguard boards as of like, Oct. 13th or something. The 1000 emails were simply for people to *apply* for beta1, so I'm not sure how many are actually getting in.

According to the vanguard forums it is Beta 1.

What they are calling 'Beta 1' is really their first stable large build, i.e. an Alpha test. They will have a few hundred people that are not internal testers doing their first runs of their servers. The game is still a ways from release. When this starts, this will be the first round of testing, really.

That's consistent with what I heard too. This is the first round of external testers, and they're starting small. Good luck getting in!

D&D doesn't fuck around.

If this turns into a snoozefest like WoW I will be very upset.

Ok I just went to the official forums and there were a few things that scared me about the community.

1- the thread "I been in jail 30 days, what did I miss" about the kid who was in juvie and couldn't check his mail.

2- A longer thread that had no less than 10 posters with name variations of Raistlin and Drizzt in the SAME thread.

3- Call for action against poster's middle shools for nto allowing DnD clubs.

Er what am I saying about D&D that I said about those games?

My overlying point had nothing to do with the game, but that the D&D name would help it sell copies. I didn't say anything about D&DO either way.....sooo...yeah.

If you disagree it'd be nice to hear why, verus the typical bullshit post like this.

I've only predicted rousing success for one MMO, and if you're curious which one, I'll reference you to a post I made here over a year ago.

Sadly, this appears to be the future of MMOs. The days of roleplaying, mature people have been replaced by the eminem generation with widespread GTA worship and whose last novel read had color pictures.

Sci Fi played D&D:Wrath last month.

The production budget for it was probably larger than D&DO
