thing is the NBA signs the paycheck..if they want them to be in a team mascot outfit while sitting on the bench that is their right to dictate such.
I long for the old days when you could look at a basketball player and respect him on and off the court. Those days are over here as they are in baseball and football sad to say.
The days of Larry Byrd, as a role model for the great orange ball of hapiness, George Brett as the icon of Major League, and Walter Payton as the guy you wanted to be when you picked teams for a friendly game of football are over.
If the dress code will start making these pricks look a little more respectful and not like some dimestore hood out for what he can get works then great.
If they dont like the rules perhaps McDonalds is hiring.
I woudl really love to take my boys to a game of Baseball or basektball or hell even football but I honestly dont think I want them thinking these people are great people. Most of them are thugs and useless trash.

The NBA is just trying to clean up their image... shit, look at the Yankees, I mean I hate them to death, but you can't even play for them if you have facial hair. As was stated before, they are signing your paycheck and allowing you to play in a national spotlight. If you can't spend a few hundred bucks out of the millions you recieve and abide by the rules, there are other leagues out there.
and for all them whiney ass bitches out there claiming racism... get over yourself.
ever remember abdul-rauf? he sat down during the nat'l anthem, and was fined. I'm guessing this also was racism because he wasn't white... or maybe it was disrespectful to America and the league, only difference is, this is just disrespecting the league you play in.
I hope iverson gets benched for being the whiney little bitch he is.

Just to put yourself in there shoes. If a Nascar league was run by yankee elitist northerners and they made a dress-code policy for no mullets or cowboy hats, would you think it was fair?
Mos tof the suits in the front office would really care less what people wear, but asshats like Tikker and Kahar can't see past bling.

they are talking about to and from and on the court. that is part of thier appearance. It is visibility Sus, Plain and simple. NBA is trying to step away from the thug stigmata they have gotten in the eyes of a lot of people. In order to do this they have to keep people looking like ghetto slugs in 3000.00 sneakers. If you see the same guy in tthe street you would call him a thug or a gangster or (insert choice racial slur). If you saw him on the playing field 1 hour later running layups would you still keep the thug idea of his looks and actions in puplic?
I can tell you if I saw one of my employees wearing grungy ass clothing on the way to work or out on the town I would have a serious talk with them. They represent the company and a bad image is 12 times easier to achieve then a good image. And about 20 times harder to get rid of.

I actually don't give a fuck, but it's fun watching you get your panties in a twist over imagined racial slurs
technically Zan the NBA is a private organization (yes games and shit on TV but the organization itself is private similar to private schools) so if they said all the NBA players have to cut off their genitals and if you don't your removed from the league they could
they could technically also say no blacks allowed. or no mexicans or no whites.
but just remember these guys are professionals.. just look at what high schools do.. game day you where shirt and ties (at least in private schools, NBA being a private organization). You don't let CEOs run around with shorts and a cut off on during a meeting to settle a 4 billion dollar deal right? Same idea with the games.. your being paid aka working aka professional.
But also look at how the different guys were before this.. Lets take the Kings as an example (since they are the home town team for me) Brad miller was injured.. he wore a nice suit.. Bobby jackson wore shirts and pants 3 times too big for him and even if it didn't look thuggish.. just looks very unprofessional
Here is something to think about.. did you see ANY NBA player during the draft have throwbacks or baggy ass jeans on ... or wearing gang colors............ no you didn't cause its called being a professional
yea it sucks but fuckin deal with it.
and there is a reason eveyrone thinks NBA is a bunch of thugs.. cause alot of the big names are. most of the players in general are not thugs.. but the ones that are on TV alot have shoe deals, get in fights with fans are all thugs.

That's because you're a racist.
You do know Larry Bird is hardly the bastion of professionalism and heroism you make him out to be. I can name 20 players who better exemplify qualities I would be proud to let my son witness.
The fact of the matter is you know nothing about basketball. You see a dude with a big silver cross and a bandana and you think thug image, he must rape children. When in reality most basketball players are intelligent and articulate.
That said, they should still adhere to the dress code because you bigoted attitude is all too common, Kahar.

i think the idea is that every other major sport requires the players to dress professionally while at league/team events, and the NBA just wants to follow suit
either that, or the big and tall suit companies are paying off someone, haha

I agree they should have a dress code, Mall. But you and I know both know there are for more Grant Hills than there are Allen Iversons in the NBA.

So this is a conformity issue?
Maybe they should just have em all wear Gap clothing then.
