Question about joysticks~

Post by Gypsiyee »

Ok.. so for Christmas, I'm buying a joystick for someone. If anyone is pretty familiar with this subject, what are some of the best out there and the differences in them?

I, personally, have not used a joystick in about 15 years, so I wouldn't have the slightest idea

(ps, joystick for a PC, probably should've mentioned that~)

http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x45.htm is a system several hard-core flight sim people I know use, and it works fine on tank sim stuff as well.

They actually have a newer model out there, http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x52.htm and can only assume it's better. All depends on how much you want to spend, but Saitek is the top of the heap right now, overall.

What if he isn't wanting to use it for flight games necessarily.. would that still be the one to get? Price isn't an issue considering I just found a puppy for free, so I have an additional 200 bucks that I was already planning on spending.

I'm not positive, but I *think* he uses them for like, first person shooters? Maybe not first person shooters because that doesn't make much sense to me, but I've never seen him play a game that I could fathom a joystick for.. but I also don't know which games are ideal for them anymore.

As I said, Saitek is the top of the heap as far as joysticks go, so regardless of what he wants to use it for, it should be a good choice.

Other possible brand to look at is the CH Flightstick, which won't come with the programmable throttle control, but is a well-regarded joystick.

I noticed in one of the reviews for that one that it wouldn't work with older games.. do you happen to know *how* old? I mean are we talking older like 5 years old or older like space invaders old
