Guild Wars

Post by Tacks »

Insanityfair and I are playing Guild Wars when we aren't raiding in WoW. Are there any good sites out there that show basic knowledge and stuff? It's been a while since I played and I forget most of the game. We're level 7 and have completed the noob area and are now in Ascalon where it got pwnt by the Charr. Do we just keep following these quests till we hit the level cap or are there things we're missing? Is there any point to the 5 on 5 arena pvp?

You can PVP in there if you want. Follow the quests and missions. The game is pretty lame.

We're having a blast to be honest. It's awesome to be able to just both of us go out and kill stuff and play as much or as little as we want. I just see these elite skills and stuff and didn't know if we're supposed to be doing stuff for them yet or not. Also tradeskill stuff is it worth doing?

ok aubry says:

You keep doing the missions in guild wars to progress. You can't get elite skills until after the desert missions and you ascend. There aren't really tradeskills just components to get armor and you should save stuff and buy the armor every once in a while.
PVP gives you faction when you win that you can use to purchase skills and item unlocks that you can only use in PVP. PVP has no relation to what you do in PVE except what you do in PVE unlocks things for PVP chars.
Most people will get a char to lvl 20 with skills unlocked in the pri/sec class and do PVP to unlock skills for the rest. There really isn't any endgame for PVE its just do the quests progress, explore the world. The endgame is the PVP.

Jj and I are playing GW as well with one of his best friends IRL. It's a nice change from the raiding type MMOs. I love the fact that we can pretty much quit out anytime needed without much hassle.

Here's links for a few help sites:

http://www.guildwars.com/
http://www.gwonline.net/
http://guildwars.gameamp.com/
http://gw.stratics.com/
http://gwvault.ign.com/

What Gyps' friend said is mostly correct, except:
a) you can get elite skills looong before ascending (my necro was SS/MM combo long before I ever ascended), but not at level 7 though most likely. Elite skills are "captured" via "Capture Signets" that you get... hmm, I forget where the first ones can be bought. Shiverpeaks I believe, but don't quote me.
b) if you do the missions in all the mission towns, you get to see the end of the actual storyline which is *kind of* the endgame. Otherwise, the actual "end game* is indeed GvG pvp.

Make sure to keep in mind exactly what she said about unlocking for PvP if you guys are planning on doing that (making a PvP-only char). What you unlock in PvE (runes, skills, spells, etc) is what you get to use in PvP. So, if you unlock next to nothing... you get next to nothing... which = dead really quick.

There are no tradeskills at all. Save ALL rare materials so that you can upgrade your armor accordingly, because the higher stuff will cost you a ton of cash ><.

The 5 on 5 PvP arena is basically gladiator style training and getting you ready for the real PvP, if you are planning on doing that later. You don't have to form a party - it creates it for you from the players available.

(p.s. if you guys would ever like a free run to somewhere, just let me know)
