actually kiling the guards can open you up to the Dark Brotherhood quest line. If you steal something do your time, when you get out you will be approaced for the Thieves guild. I think this works only in the imperial city. not sure.

anywho. I opened dark brotherhood and thieves guild up. FYI. If you are running a legit guild line (mage guild, Fighters Guild) dont do any of thier quests till you are finished. I ran into this last night and word had gotten back to the guild that I was bumping people off.

you get into the dark brotherhood by killing someone, not by going to jail ;)

nope, was there to begin with. I edited my reply to start with because I thought I had not made myself clear, then I reread.

Anywho, lets not make this a politcal and rib debate :)

If you have not doen so grab the stratedgy guide for the game. I have not had to use it for quest info but the map section and such are worth their weight in gold.

I about died laughing when I saw it was 360+ pages of a guide. leave it to bethesda to need a novel for a guide. Still the guide was very informative and very accurate.

I have learned a few things on it however. 1, to boost skills as your running form point a to point b just continuously cast your firebolt (if your a caster) or your heal spell, or whatever school you need to work on.

for acrobatics, run everywhere and randomnly 'jump'
For lock picking buy a ton of lockpicks and screw with a lock for about a hour.
for blocking, and weapons swing them and block while running around time. it will give you skill ups.

guides are a waste of money, you can find 10x the information on the interwebz

here's one from IGN, i was surprised that it didn't require you to buy their damned membership to read. but it looks complete

I've leafed thru a couple of guides for older games that I've beaten a few times, and been shocked at some of the stuff I've missed

there's no way you'd ever figure out some of the shit on your own

see Ogre Battle as a prime example

Oblivions I like because of the size and information in it. yes there are guides online but frankly I hate alt tabbing out and running google searches while I look. easier for me to add plastic tabs to it and just research the area i need. Makes great reference material.

The guides are fun to read through, but I wouldn't purchase it myself. If I borrowed it from someone, sure, kind of like the old EQ guides, the snippets of lore were cool.

Just started today. Graphics are great. Gameplay is... meh. Maybe my attitude will change as I get more involved with the game. I chose a Thief/Assassin. His arrows couldn't kill a bunny rabbit. :darkangel:
