PHOENIX -- Steve Nash will win his second straight NBA Most Valuable Player award, according to reports on several area newspapers.
Nash The announcement may not come for two weeks, according to the Arizona Republic. But the paper, and others, report that the voting shows Nash edging LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups and Kobe Bryant for the MVP.
This season, Nash had career-highs in points (18.8 points per game), rebounds (4.2 per game), field goal percentage (51.2 percent) and free throw percentage (92.1 percent -- best in the league). He was also the league-leader in assists (10.5) and shot nearly 50 percent from three-point range.
The Suns are currently playing the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
A year ago, Nash edged Shaquille O'Neal in what was the fourth-closest balloting in history.
I'm surprised, not that he doesn't deserve it but I figured this was going to be lebron's year, or maybe kobe with his sick scoring

Without nash on the other hand, i think most of the suns are scrubs
Nash definitely raises the whole team, but they are not all bad. Stoudemire is a stud, although worthless this season. Marion and Thomas are decent. Bell is underrated. I'd say they are about the same as Cleveland. Possibly a little better. The difference is Phoenix's O is less malleable without Nash.

I dunno about that, thomas is a solid roleplayer, amare has been out all season, the only other real good player that you couldn't replace on the suns is marion.
The caves have hughes (missed a big chunk of the season but still played), ilgauskus (sp?), gooden.
Phoenix intergrated 3 new starters on that team on the team and did it without missing a beat. He's the best point guard in the league since John Stackton (maybe kid when he had two knees), and that team would be worthless if it wasn't for him.
Kobe would have had my vote, but Nash is definately worthy.
His personal stats were better than anyone elses all around, but I still say he's more a one man show and Nash is more a team player. That makes you more valuable in a team sport, but I'm no expert at basketball.
Without Kobe though that lakers team is a 12 win team at best. They would have been battling the Knicks for the worst team in basketball. Depending on the criteria you use for MVP (everyone is different), i think Kobe should get it (and i fucking hate Kobe).
LBJ best player in basketball hands down, Nash had an incredible year, especially after losing some of the players from last year, and not having Amare. But the Suns still were a good team with alot of talent.
IMHO Kobe was the most valuable player to his team, just edging out Nash. Wich opens a can of worms that i would like to pose a question about. What is your definition of a MVP in the league?
with the selection of nash last year, it's pretty obvious they're going with the literal interpretation of MVP, most valuable player, and not "best player"
i think when nash was out, it showed how the suns are a mediocre team without him and an elite team with him in the line up
I think Kobe did raise the lvl a play in his teamates. Look at Smuch freakin' parkers stats. You think Chris Mihms would have a career if it wasn't for Kobe?
He's a chucker, no question about it. But he's a good chucker. He scores a pretty good percent and no one in the league shoots volume FG like he does. He's killer in the clutch, he attacks the basket AND he's an all defense player. Aside from Bowen and Artest no one in the league guards wing players like him.
Plus he had the most memorable moment of the season.
It's like if Wilt didn't win MVP the year he hit 100 (I don't know if he did or not).
Vonk will say Dirk, whcih is fair, but no one was as good as Kobe this year. I hope they announce it before tonights game cause I want to see him break the playoff single game point record.
I read an article on ESPN about defining the MVP. They had a bunch of categories, like "Best player on the best team" (Billups) "Best player overall" (Kobe) "Best player on a team with an incredible stretch run" (Lebron) "Most indispensable" (Nash) etc. etc.
Personally, I think with the exception of Billups, if you take any of these players off their team, they suck, and they definitely don't make the playoffs. So throw that category out the window for me.
I'd take Kobe. Him dropping 81 is something I'll never forget, and I think that's enough for me.
They change the 'rules' every year. They need to come up with a standard MVP description and fucking stick with it. Dirk would have won by the 02, 03 and 04 descriptions. The biggest argument for Nash winnng it over Shaq last year was the 'best player on the best teams' description. By that guage, it'd come down to Dirk, Chauncey and Parker - Dirk would totally win from those. Dirk played in EVERY SINGLE GAME unlike all of the other candidates (he was only benched in game 82 because it was a throwaway game).
The Mav's were plagued by injuries all year long, unlike all the other candidates. Blahblah, Nash lost Amare. Boo-hoo, that happened last fucking year. Is it, "MVP, for what happened in the off-season?" No. It's MVP for the regular season. He did a great job elevating his teammates around him. Diaw is now a huge stud and he'll make big money wherever he goes. Was that 'all' because of Nash's magical abilities? Shrug. Ya'll honestly think Diaw would be a huge scrub if he played with Jason Kidd or, hell, Sam Cassell?
Last year, Phoenix won 63 games and everyone used that to give Nash the trophy. Alright, cool. This year, he gets it because Amare breaks his knee and they 'survive'. Wtf? We always knew he was a good player but head and shoulders above what Lebron, Dirk, Kobe and even Elton Brand did for their teams? Fuck no. Nash simply did his job. Define the fucking award already because it really seemed tailored for Nash this year. He got all the MVP talk before the all-star break and nobody noticed how bad he tanked AFTER the all-star break, and how well LBJ and Dirk did. They were riding the Nash wagon the whole time. I love Stevie but Phoenix can suck my cock.
Crock of shit.

such a wide open race this year that i wouldn't have cared who got the award. personally would have liked to see dirk win it as he's always been overlooked even though dallas perform extremely well in the reg season. but no beef with nash winning it.

Dirk's a shit defender just like Nash, so which is more valuable to their respective offenses? I say Nash, hands down.
