Scripture readings at weddings

Well, I guess this is as good a place as any to ask. Langston(Ugzug) and I are planning our wedding for June, 2007, and so a lot of the details are in the process of getting ironed out now. I am not an overly religious person, nor is he, but his family is devoutly Catholic, while mine is casually Luthern.

Anyway, my mom sounded like she would be very disapointed if there were no scriptures read, and I know his family would like to have a scripture reading as well, so my question is this: I am not very familiar with the Bible - at least not enough to pick out any sort of meaningful passage for a wedding, so would anyone with better knowledge of the Bible be able to suggest 2-4 apt passages? I realize this is probably something I should be doing myself to lend more meaning to the chosen passages, but I would still appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Or, as an afterthought, are the annointed readers supposed to select their own passages? I'm not real up-to-date on wedding etiquette.

I know at Funerals the readers pick out a passage that means something to them, I am not sure about weddings though.

If you are going to get married in a church the priest/pastor/rabbi will generally be able to suggest scripture if they don't just have a standard service they do.

We are not getting married in a church. It will be in the backyard/garden area of my parent's house. So we're not even sure if the ceremony will be officiated by a religious figure, or if a non-religious figure would allow for a passage or two to be read.

If I remember correctly the JoP at our wedding read some scripture. She actually did a REALLY nice ceremony...was much much better than I expected.

Of course, that was in GA and it's the bible belt down there.....

it was nicer because of the setting of the wedding. Maeya Im happy for you and Ugz! The Mindia Scripture is usually the best one around for that.

As for the wedding, I would reccomend writing your own vows if allowed. screw the scripture if it does not mean anything to you and Ugz. Its your wedding not thiers. Do what you want to do with it. Hell ours we had the Lion King's Can you feel the love tonight as precessional.

I dont cotton to the normal crap at weddings.

I went t o a wedding a couple of years back and they played "Welcome to the Jungle" as they walked into the reception hall. It was hilarious because he was 36 at the time and she was 21.

Also talk to the Pastor / Preacher / Father who's going to be doing the cerimony and ask him if he would have any suggestions.

Except the fountain will be gone and flowers will be planted to match the colorscheme (yet to be decided). If we end up asking the local Lutheran pastor to preside (which is the chuch my family belongs to), we might have to take some of those classes... but if I remember correctly, they are not required. However, if you take them, they give you a discount on your marriage license.

I already told C that for the processional, for him, we'd have to play the Darth Vader march from Star Wars. He told me that since it's one of his good friends doing the photography, he'd tell him to bring a backdrop of a bunch of running Asians and do a Bridezilla picture.

We're so suited for each other :P

I personaly dont want want religious readings to be said when I get married.. Just I dunno, Seem's like it's all to reinforce orginized religion and not the point of two people coming together in a union. Dont get me wrong, Im not bashing church's..Just dislike most orginized religions.
