Anyone play poker? I've been into this for a little over a year now and I was just wondering. Would be cool if we could talk strats and such on NT if anyone plays for real.
Limit is a little more straight forward in terms of what hands you net with and bluffing requires some preconditioning. There's a lot more pre flop and flop strategies. Aggresive play and intimidation and take several hands to establish. Lower blind tables like 1/2 or 2/4 are hard to push people out of because going all the way to the river may only cost you 8 bucks so a lot of people will call anything.
No limit is a lot more fast paced and punishing if you make the wrong move. Luck plays a bigger role here and you'll are the end of the game in less hands. A lot of the time you can force someone out on pure chip stack intimidation whereas that doesn't exist in limit.
As I watch poker tournaments on television, it shocks me to see how many people don't understand how vital position is during a hand. Especially when going all-in when they are after the button.
I only play when my brother gets me to, but he is really into it. If you want real advice I recommend buying a few books and learning from them. He has libraries of them.
I am in the World Series this weekend. I start on saturday. I have played Hold-em for about 10 years now.
I only make it to NT about once a month though, so you will have to PM me if you want to talk about it.

Right. Position is key. In my case (generally), I only play a premium hand after the button if I'm gonna raise in any way. All in is a stupid move in most cases but as in anything in poker there really is no absolute. Generally though if everyone calls, chances are you're busted, even with pocket aces.
Even with a premium hand after the button, I'll just limp in and get a feel for the quality of everyone else's hand. I see no reason to raise big or go all-in after the button unless you are chip leader at the table.

I love watching Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu. Ivey is just crazy at tournament poker. He go all-in on dogshit. And he has one of the best poker faces Ive seen.
Negreanu is amazing to watch in highstakes poker. When he gets on a roll he hits everything.
There's some sort of magic on the felt but online is good practice. Every online player (the ones that started online that play primarily online) is loose aggressive so when you catch one of those asswipe Moneymaker wannabe's at the cardoom you just counter play them with tight aggression. Most of them just give you the blinds all night and they will throw the cards away if you raise em big or all in them. I generally try to condition them for about 3 hands once I identify them then I'll repeat my bluff again except the 4th or 5th time around I'll have the monster hand.
Aside from hold em I typically play Omaha, Omaha 8 or better and Omaha Hi Lo 8 or better. If I ever get in a position to play professionally i want my bracelets in those games and in limit and of course no limit.

You're thinking about BlackJack I think. Poker hands are shuffled every time and they rotate 2 decks and play one whil the midget under the table shuffles the other.

i kind of get bored halfway through the match and go all in on something like a pair of 3s and see if i win or if i get to leave and go do somethin more fun
I played at the 15/30 table last night right. I limp in on a 10 9 suited. Flop comes. A 5 6 rainbow. I check, next to me checks, next to him raises, next to him re raises so on and so forth. I toss my cards at this point. On the turn comes a 7. Raise, re raise, re raise fold and cap. The guy that's calling is a really tight player. My read on him is an A K since he's calling and not raising. The other guy reraising I put on A rag because he's loose. River hits. It's a 3. Raise, reraise, fold, fold. Tight guy is thinking...He's got the high pair but he's not sure to play against the raise. He's real tight and will save 1 chip if he can. He folds. The winner throws his cards on the table and yells "9 high!". I laughed for like 10 minutes straight. The tight asian guy goes and chainsmokes like 4 cigs.
Poker is gambling no matter how you cut it. No win is going to come easy in hold 'em. If you play that tight you are going to get burned. I would've reraised him when the 3 fell to see if he was full of shit.
Yeah. The guy was trying to hit his straight. Whn he missed it, he kept raising with no hesitation. Tight guy wanted to save the 30 bucks as opposed to pay for a chance at a 15 to 1 payout. What a dipshit.
