As someone who played two years of DAOC, let me give you one word of advice.

Don't.

The game is circle jerk, with a worse treadmill model than EQ, and a very unbalanced and frustrating coop PVP model that rewards exploiters and min/maxers with an assload of time.

They just redid the Frontiers and I'm hearing reports that's it's really made the game fun again. I've been tossing up the idea of doing the 14 free days just to see.

I once killed an rogue in DAOC on a paladin in rvr... he was one of them barbarian motherfuckers from midgard and he snuck up on me and hit me, scared the shit out of me so I ran foreward so I could make a U turn and attack. The best part about it was I had the enchanter buff that adds alot of dmg to your hits and this guy was chasing me doing /laugh. The joy of laughing at his corpse when I killed him was overwhelming. He released soon as he could. Glad the dumbass got what was coming to him. That was the one fun moment on that game I ever had, and it took 35 levels to get there.

P.S. Does anyone actually read these stories I post 3 times a day?

There are stilll some massive issues and exploits in DAOC that have not been resolved. It's PVE is horrid, and its RVR "limited" PVP is still out of whack.

Frontiers is a good idea, but Mythic did not address the real issues that have caused most decent gamers to leave.

A friend and I just need a game to play for two or three months until WoW comes out. And since Lineage2 costs $50 and we already had the daoc disks, we chose daoc. :p

Why not try a free download of another game/MMORPG? DAOC is ass, but feel free to find out for yourself.

just so you know. the 1-30 leveling parts of the game are virtually empty since everyone creates instant level 20s in the game. you will find that finding 1 group nearly impossible even during peak hours. RVR still sucks unless your a stealth class and like to gank people. trials of atlantis is only for people level 40+ and is filled with ninja looters. once you get to level 50 there is nothing to do other than RVR, on the carebear server only thing to do is farm seals in darkness falls (everyone on gaheris has tons of cash). while there are many things i like about DAOC (tank types arent hit attack and go afk types because they have weapon styles). the game design prevents strategy of any sort if you do a dragon raid. mythic in their infinite wisdom forces you to have 60 friends to take on any high level mob. instead of giving mob more hp they just increase the level making the mob impossible to hit with spells if your a caster unless you have certain realm skills that only can be gained by RVR and if you are a tank, grats you get to hit the mob for 1-3 points.

i give you a month in this game before you get annoyed with it

feel free to suggest some other downloadable or cheap games, but for now it is daoc and it seems fun enough for me and my friend. And the game seems easy enough to progress through as a duo.. so we should be fine :)

Hey, if you are having fun, more power to you. I just think it's bland, boring crap, compared to many other better games...

As far as whats out there:

I'm completely psycho addicted to this game since the New Frontiers release. It also helps I'm in a decent guild that cleaned shop since I quit in November.

What Lyion is preaching is true to some extent as well. There are many bugs, expoits. A lot of hacking/radar is nonexistant at this point though. Leveling sucks bad until you get to the later levels. The only plus is now you can level by going in RvR. You get 8 times the exp for an enemy then in Pve.

Make sure you pick one of the populated servers if you choose to play. Unlike most games where you want to be on a smaller server, you want to actually have people to level with.

Personally I'm having a blast with the new siege equipment. I never had a defined role in rvr as a warrior. As sucky as it sounds being a siege bot is kinda nice. I use catapaults and ballistas and run interference rather than beating on a door. The strategy is almost as tactical as Planetside now. Taking keeps actually means something. It's worth a shot if you've played it in the past.

P.S. Don't read the IGN forums if you want a feel for the game. It's nothing but bitter teenagers who spam, curse, and flame all day long. Most haven't played the game in over a year.

Hey Tstorm. A good guild will make a medicore game fun. However, would you honestly recommend DAOC to a newbee?

I would. I enjoyed DAoC, I thought combat styles were the best thing ive seen yet in an online game of this type. Downtime is basically non-existent. Group hunting tends to be more friendly than the exping in EQ. The PvP is a lil lopsided, but each class excells at something out there in the frontier. The trick is finding a realm and class that you enjoy. 1 on 1 my Friar was almost unstoppable, I loved him :D

Definitely not if you are going solo. If you have 1 or 2 friends to level along with you it can be a lot of fun. Besides with ra's and the random object generator putting out decent drops the leveling experience is much more relaxed than it used to be. I've never been a huge PVP fan but I'm starting to enjoy it.
