I've been thinking about picking one up too, but there aren't any games that I'm dying to have. Usually that is what makes me buy a system. I know I will definitely want to play Final Fantasy though when it comes out, but that wont be til who knows when next year, and by then PS3 prices will drop if they care at all about market share.

What are some must-haves, or at least must-plays, for 360?

I've had one for a couple of years. It's my preferred gaming system.

There are probably not too many games for it that are not available on PC at this point. I usually pick up games used when they are $20 and less.

are all really good and should be available used for cheap. I honestly spend more time playing the LIVE Arcade games than I do discs. I HIGHLY recommend Rez. It's one of my all time favorite games and translated really well to the 360. I have no problem paying $50 a year for the LIVE gold service either. Their online system is really well done IMO and worth the $4 a month.

well for me, the big impetus to buy is that the EA sports games aren't being made for PC this year, and they suck on the PSP, jeje

so pretty much a certainty that worst case scenario I'll have madden and NHL

I'm also a MCE user, so using it as an extender as well is another use for me

are there non-shooters out there that people like? I'll pretty much never play a FPS on it, cause that's just kinda weaksauce

I don't know dude, I just got used to playing FPS on a console and prefer it now. It's a much bigger challenge on the console due to somewhat clumsy controls but I've adapted and grown to like it.

I saw on g4 the other day a mouse/nunchuck kinda combo for the 360 (i think)

essentially they just mapped the right analog to the mouse wheel thinger

you should try, because once you get used to it it's the same. unless you're playing multiplayer against someone that has a keyboard. but i don't think there are any good FPS on xbox except halo 3 that you can't get elsewhere

you seem to enjoy modding things so i'd recommend you get a PS3, because it comes with a bootable linux OS or something like that.... really easy to mess around with those, and if you're just buying sports games i don't see why you wouldn't go Sony... their console-specific games are almost always better. i think the only things i'd want from the Xbox are ninja gaiden and halo

i've been going the console route myself lately. sitting at a computer for more than 30 minutes if i'm not writing an essay really pisses me off... i'd rather veg on a couch with a huge TV

I borrowed a friends ps3 right when I got the new tv, and the damn thing crashed 3-4 times just trying to load games

I really wasn't impressed at all

Like, I recognize that it's a much better machine, and it's a blu-ray player, etc etc but I just can't justify shelling out the $400+ for it, when I can get a 20gb 360 for under $200 right now

i have an xbox 360 and i play nhl 09 religously as i am canadian through and through. I love it and i love xbox live. I still think live makes the 360 the all around superior machine.

not having used xbox live before, is it pretty simple to meet up with people you know and get some games in?

since it's microsoft your gamer tag is actually your msn screen name so it's really easy to find friends either by their user name or email address.

Get a PS3. Online play is free. It comed bundled with a blu-ray player. Plus, Sony is adding neat features. You can also run Linux off it, and add a hard drive upgrade free. You have to pay for 360 multiplayer.

Most importantly, you won't have the 33% chance of the Red Ring of Death, or be banned from online play if MS screws up.

Live is good, but if you don't have an established group of friends, PS3 > 360.

LIVE is $4 a month. Easily worth the few bucks for the slick LIVE interface which is going to be integrated with Netflix in a month or so. WIN!

not to mention you get live arcade where you can buy like Golden Axe 2 for your 360 for $4. You can also use linux on a 360

Live arcade isn't even remotely a draw for me

I'm not paying money for old games I've owned in the past, and can easily emulate on my pc/ds/psp

The arcade is one of my favorite things about the 360. There are some great games on there that aren't just classic arcade games with updated graphics.
