Need a new turn-based game since I am a cripple
Have a few weeks of sitting at home... hate TV... already played through Heroes 2&3, new maps hard to find... reinstalling Disciples II but am sure I'll get tired of that soon...
Is there anything else? Any good modern turn-based strategy game that could keep me interested for 300 hours? Don't want another RPG like BG or so... would love a good GOD game or something similar. No old schhol Microprose games tho, I have more hours in those than all my time in EQ.
Thanks in advance.

Another would be Advance Wars 1 & 2 for GBA.
http://www.the-underdogs.org also has a list of games to just fuck around with. I'm hoping you have a gamepad for your computer.

underdogs is a great site. advance wars is like a simplified Iron Storm(that saturn game from the fable thread). I enjoyed it, and if you find a good rom site they are worth the download.
as for a good modern TBS, civ3 has had my interest lately. Space Empires 4 is what MoO3 should have been.
Europa Universalis 2 is one of the greatest strategy games i've played, and covers the world from 1420-1820. It's real time, but you can control how fast/slow it goes, and pause at any time. You can play any country in the game apart from the papacy afaik, from England to the Inca.
i'd suggest checking kazaa for it, unless you know how i could x-fer a 50 meg installer to you
edit - i'd suggest the total war series, except that Rome Total War comes out next month

civ3 was way too buggy... although I did spend a lot of time in it. space empires looks good but too expensive for an 'older' game, imo. looking at some games on underdogs, thanks for links. anyone play the disciples games enough to know ifd I should buy one of the expansion sets?

yeah, I played the hel out of both disciples 1 andf 2. just had friend take me to gamestop and they had both the light and dark expansions for $5 each... seem good so far, randfom map generator will certainly rule

HoMM4 sux big time. I was severely disappointed with that game.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Alpha Centauri. i played it when it came out and i loved it.
also heroes of m&m 4 came out a few months ago and that is supposed to be good.
otherwise just play quick games and use all the tons of maps that heroes 3 has. i love that game
yeah, prety much... if its sid meier, i have playd it and i haver loved it. so, hell yeah on alpha centarui. not much replay value imo, with the storyhline and all.
Tikker, wht are these games about? they are chinees war games, rigtht?

OH
vonkaar i completely forgot about this for some reason but I highly highly highly recommend that you play
Medieval: Total War
the actual wars when you fight aren't turn-based but you can put it on auto pilot i believe. the game's all about taking over europe.
also i suggest those old point and click adventure games; the VGA remake of King's Quest 2 is really damned fun. it's the original game but it's been rewritten and had some things added to make it more in-depth. in my opinion it's better than the original.
here's how well they did it:

ya Medieval: Total Ownage is incredible. The diplomacy is on the weak side, but what do you expect from something called 'Total War'
imagine Sid Meir's Gettysburg combined with Risk. each turn you train troops/move armies/upgrade provinces. then at the end, armies fight it out in real time. but tactics decide the battle, even moreso than army composition(unless you got an all peasant army)
edit - but Rome: Total War comes out in like 3 weeks, so unless the medieval tw price drops to like 15 bucks, i'd suggest waiting for Rome

Medieval total war definately...I'm actually going to reinstall and play that now...the Rome: Total War demo was so badass.

Have you played Disgaea or La Pucella? Very good turn-based/tactics games.

x-com apoc was a disgrace toi the genre
x-com is EASILY my all time favorite game... was first thing i played when i became cripplerd, but apoc was nightmarishly bad... nort as bad as moo3, but definitely diaspointing.
I said no microprose because i have played the hell out of ALL of them... master of magic, moo, moo2, machiavelli the prince, colonization, civ(s) and most important,... x-com1 & 2.
