They've now pushed the release date to Nov. 8th. Haha they know they have a buggy piece of shit game so they're releasing it ahead of WoW to try to get more customers. Just wait till after the new year and see which game is better...

The game is NOWHERE close to ready to be released in November. The beta is down every damn time you turn around. 2 days ago it was down for a night for patch and all day the next day. Then gets back up, goes down this morning again, goes back up, and is now down again. Jeezus! I probally wont be buying the game unless they fix this crap, and if its released on Nov 8th ther is no way its fixed.

Well, its no surprise that SoE will release a busted up game, is it?

All things considered, i think I'll still be buying it at release. As long as they can keep the servers up and stable, it should still be pretty fun to play.

ATM EQ2 blows WOW away. The biggest problem imo was the lack of diversity between subclasses, but the complete spell lists and customization options released fix that.

Honestly WOW didn't impress me at all. It doesn't really have anything new or novel about it. Its just EQ1 with a new skin and a bunch of KILL X MOB quests, super fast leveling, less content, and a fairly small world. Yeah its more stable, but they are making a game that was done 5 years ago.

EQ2 has pretty much kept its base and stolen all the features from other games that it could. Hell, half the cool stuff in horizons is in EQ2 without the dullness.

I am tired of EQlive, and WOW really has nothing to offer. Maybe they have some magic stuff hidden but I doubt it. Blizzard has always been great at putting together a clean nice package with little or no innovation.

Both games will do well.

Diablo and Warcraft were both trend-setting games that broke open their genres. Saying that Blizzard has no innovation is like saying that Sony has great customer service.

Well they werent exactly innovative, they were just the first of their kind to make it big.

Of course they had their own ideas and plenty of them, but I've played games before theirs that were very similar that just werent popular for whatever reason...

It makes perfect sense.

They didn't have any innovation at all, they took what had been done and had worked and put it all in a nice package. They didn't create or redefine thier genre with any game, and WOW certainly doesn't. Blizzard games are good quality, but nothing new. Saying they are new and innovative is like saying DOom 3 is an all new concept in FPS games. Its the same damn game as every other FPS in the last 10 years.

EQ2 will be a piece of shit upon release..... WoW will be decent.

In the long run EQ2 will slaughter WoW and steal the majority of all original EQ1 players back.

so the accusation here seems to be that blizzard isn't redefining the MMORPG genre...they are doing it right

sounds A-fuckin-OK to me, i liked the IDEA of everquest much more than i liked the actual game-- if blizzard can get closer to that idea in my head, AND utilize the trademark blizzard stylization of graphics and environments (slightly cartoony), then fuck SOE and EQ2 in their stupid asses

No, they aren't "doing it right" they are just repackaging. the genre has alot of things that need to be improved and changed.

If your idea of everquest is everquest with different graphics, less content, small world, and pvp, go for it.

It just depends on what you want from a MMO now.

Uh, sorry, but WOW is NOT a small world. Is it as large as EQ after upteen expansions? No. Is it much larger than EQ was on release? Oh absolutely hell yes.

EQ2 will be much smaller, by an order of magnitude probably, than WoW is. It's Sony's model to sell you the rest of the content in the following eight expansions.

Beyond that, I'm not going to argue with you Nagin... you obviously have your mind made up that Blizzard sucks. Have fun in EQ2!

Yeah, it is larger than the original one CD eq in 1999. but smaller than EQ2. size isn't the only thing about the game though. SWg was massive but with nothing to do.

Again, I don't hate blizzard, I own most everything they have made. Like I say in the other thread, I was looking forward to WOW and not EQ2, but playing them both has turned me around. WOW is nothing special. I think the main reason people are playing it is because its not SOE. Personally the only company that I won't buy anything else from is firaxis. If Wow was better, I would be there. but it can't hold a candle in any way to EQ2.

Well, they have 3 weeks to test half the game then. SoE has 2 weeks to test what is basicly Alternate advancement and tune instancing for lag.

I may be suprised and there will be tons of cool stuff they have hidden, but the last time I played a game where content was said to be held back for release was SWG.

As for being tested internally, when has that worked for a MMORPG?

SWG it failed miserably.
Horizens it was a joke.
EQ tried it with a few of their expansions. SOL anyone?
DAOC stopped doing it
COH devs at least apologized for doing it after nerfing to fix things.
etc.

And if it is "raid content" by which I assume you mean high end content, that does nothing for the game except the people who super speed through the early game to be on top.

iirc you said you got into EQ2 beta through fileplanet. give it a try. Play to level 15 or 20 and see what you think. then post a comparison.

I'm pretty sure Taxx has already stated that he HAS played EQ2... to like level 16 I think.

EQ2 is far different than just a tuning of the AA system of EQ1. If that's what you really think it is, then you're even more clueless than I thought.

What I was saying is all that is not released is the new racial and class skills that are basicly the same as AAs in EQ1.

As for taxx playing, let him explain what he feels are the pros and cons of the two games. the most I have seen him say are "Its a snooze fest"

Why? What makes WOW so great in comparison?

I have explained how I feel. Wow has nothing that EQ1 didn't already bore me with. Maybe taxx loves the crafting system, personally I don't craft, even in horizons I didn't craft.

But saying one is better because it is or is not SOE is stupid.

Saying that the game will be awesome because 1/2 of the content hasn't even been released is just as stupid.

I understood that is what you meant by "SoE has 2 weeks to test what is basicly Alternate advancement...", and which prompted my reply of "And we all know what a great job $OE has done tuning AA given 3 years time" (unless it was Ugz that you were addressing).

I just found it pretty funny that anyone who has been paying any attention at all in the years since AA have been implemented that they would make a statement like that as a basis of confidence.
