Question about a non MMO Game (Old Fogeys look within)

A long long time ago I used to play a game (single player) about post apocyalyptic earth.

It was out for either the Vic20 or maybe the Commodore64 (I owned both) but it's been a long time since so I cant remember offhand.

Offhand what I remember is that you could get a vehicle and soup it up with weaponry and armor and also you could play as your character, meaning that you would just walk around as your avatar.

It was iirc released somewhat around the Bard's Tale era maybe a bit after.

I may by this post show my age but alzheimers seems to have a firm grip on me and for the life of me I can't remember the name of the game.

I was hoping some of you other old fogeys would remember.

Reason I ask is that I was browsing the net and was able to DL the bard's tale series and suddenly I'm nostalgic.

So basically it was released near or just after Bards Tale but prior to Pools of Radiance (Which I'm also trying to find and DL)

Any info would be appreciatted

your description sounds a lot like Blaster Master for the NES, which is still one of my favorite games of all time

i had a vic20 when i was 8 but my mom sold it at a garage sale
