EQ used to own. Back when it was about having a good time, running from gnolls and aviaks... now it's just a rush to become as uber as you can in as little time as possible. It's just not the same anymore. I'd rather have the old days back... when people sold shit in the EC tunnel. They should have stopped with SoV, IMHO.
the top end of the game is falling apart... AL leaving, LoS holding open recruiting...
The hard core, end-game players are bailing out. EarthB was a nightmare that they put up with to earn access to Time. Time is by all acounts STILL fucked up (not there yet, don't know first hand). LDON/LoY were worthless expansions... and now GoD is miserably implemented for the raiding guilds.
There is nothing to keep the top-of-the-line players playing. It's not surprising to see them leaving - although it's a bit of a surprise to see the entire AL guild disbanded.
I wish them well and hope that this heralds that WoW is more than just hype... that the game really is as good as it looks and that is why EQ is drying up at the high levels.

i wouldnt count all high end guilds out yet, there is still potential for meaningful progression in GoD if Sony changes stuff to be less stupid but...
yeah its not what it used to be, personally though ill prolly keep playing until there is a better game in commercial release, can say the same for CT and a lot of other endgame guilds.
fyi earthB isnt that bad at all since the rathe council has been fixed for like a year now, not exactly the most exciting encounter but when you win it for the first time it definitely feels good. Time doesnt have any problems except for the occasional instancing bug (often because some retard clicked into an instance when he shouldn't have) and some easily disposed of yard trash that spawns in the wrong place and is good for a few laughs.
So basically unless your guild already has everything it needs from time and has made it's way well into Uqua...there is no shortage of decent raid content. True, it's not like the first time you made it into north ToV, but every new toy loses it's shine after a few years, EQ has lasted a long time, and it's still the best game out there until WoW EQ2 etc hit the commercial release.

I agree with Met... EQ is probably the best thing out there, currently. And, until something 'better' comes along to dethrone it - it'll always have a huge following.
I guess, for me, there seems to be to much content. I think I can understand Sony's desire to keep their customer base, but then again, people are going to quit regardless of how much content they impliment. I wouldn't have played as long as I did if it hadn't been for CT and the friends I've made along the way - both on Maelin and The Nameless, I think that's probably true for a lot of people. For some it is the content and the challenge to defeat what ever 'magic' Sony throws their way that keeps them playing.
Anyway, I miss the days when the epic was worth getting. Hell, when I got mine (for Diekan my Rogue - never finished Slainn's) I spent half the night looking at the stats. Do people even bother doing epics now-a-days?
For me the magic of EQ was found in the kitchen of MM helping Crendar get his fangs... hanging out in D2 in OS with Zahlia and Co... following Mallorn and Mawavi in SOV only to be dispacthed by Orcs... leveling up with Dosfett in Oasis and talking about what our last names would be once we hit 20... dying to Trak over and over until finally getting him down with Paragons of Fury... those were good times, but that 'magic' eventually died.
To much damn content...
But, in all fairness - Time was a blast... getting there sucked much ass and to this day I still hate the PoWater. You'll find that Time is well worth the effort in the end. The mobs are fun, the drops are nice and it does feel good to beat Q in the end.

GoD is an ass of an expansion.. truthfully if they were to tune the ldon drops with risk vs reward vs time spent.. I would much much rather do them.
When it comes down to it GoD couldn't have come out at a worse time for the "top end guilds" whom all received 30-100 WoW invites. The fact that GoD is horrid and WoW is fun and new has hurt most rosters. Also now I hear that Uqua was defeated, but no flags were given out  makes people really want to try to progress through it for nothing.
I spend most of my nights in LDoN or farming old content to keep the "fun" in EQ for me. We all know that SoV was and always will be the best expansion out there, and that racing for raid mobs is one of the funnest things to do. Fuck instanced zones.

kunark was the best. dope droppable armor suits, epics, a new race that wasn't flamboyantly homosexual, and a big key-required zone for the hardcore people. All SoV really added was more to raid and a couple of epic-scale quests. the faction part of it was really cool and i wish they would've added more depth to later expansions as far as stuff like that, rather than just: kill these guys to get these flags to get into this zone yay

Racing for raid mobs is idiotic, and instanced zones fucking own.
Dynamic instanced zones with changeable content, adventures, bosses, and drops are so much more advanced, that I find it hilarious anyone would prefer to race to farm the same mob over and over, compared to doing something new.
Then again, some people like killing the same mob over and over and just care about trying to hoard shiny sparklies. More power to you. The funny thing is those shiny sparklies are outdated by the next EQ expansion.
The problem with EQ instanced zones is LDON is half baked. It has tons of potential, but my guess is the LDON will be done 'correctly' in EQ2.
Instanced zones are the future, since the lifer rush gamer crowd is a small percentage of those playing. Devs would rather appeal to the other 99% who play a small amount of time, and aren't tring to 'win' an MMORPG,.
1) Who cares about AL quitting? Everyone is going to quit EQ someday. Well maybe not some people....
2) I don't follow the idea of moving as a guild to a new game. I love LoS and could never imagine being anywhere else in -Everquest-. But part of the enjoyment of a new game for me would be going solo from scratch and starting from square one...building a rep, having fun on your terms and then later marketing yourself for a raiding guild if you so chose. Being locked in a group of 30-50 people from level one just doesn't sound appealing.

Instanced zones definitely help the more casual players/guilds in that they can do things on thier own time, and on whatever day works best for them. Common mobs go to the power guilds who have people on everyday and can gather people whenever needed. While part of me likes the instanced content for being able to just do your own thing, some of the most "fun" moments in EQ have been racing other people for a mob, the stand-offs, and yes- even the occassional training and such that inevitably happens. It really sucks at the time if you're the one trained, but can't deny that it adds excitement.
It is a shame to see them go. Even though there WWW site wasn't loaded with all that fun shit you used to get off LoS board (back in the day when Tigole used to quote folks, post pics, etc etc). Damn that made me laugh so many times. AL still was a foundation of raiding guilds. To see them make this "in your face" statement, someone better listen.
RE: GoD, I bought it for the AA (<-fewl i was), not even been there, would like to go but never taken the time. I was discussing GoD with a few folks and how IMHO it was a player killer (aka "early retirement"). Maybe that guess is off, I guess I should have said WoW is the EQ Killer. Maybe GoD was the catalyst and WoW nailed the coffin shut /shrug who knows.
Not on the WoW beta but I'm curious to know the depth of WoW. We've all probably read crap all over how awesome it is, but I've read similiar shit about DAoC, Horizans, <MMOG Name here>. The "depth" of EQ seemed to bring folks back. Curious what the future holds and if WoW will be able to keep a solid foothold as it certainly started beta with a earthshaking MMOG smackdown.

A friend of mine is in WOW beta and I have played on his account. Honestly, its not offering me anythign EQ doesn't provide already except a "new world"
The only MMORPG that I have played that can offer me soemthing different (and decent) so far is COH. that game really did what they said they would do perfectly.

"new world"
Isn't that the whole idea? Frankly I don't care if WoW is extremely similar to EQ or if EQ2 is as well. I'm going to probably play both of them simply because they are "new worlds." Half the fun of the mmog is being a new world newbie while everyone else is. There are no uber guilds, you have no reputation unless you build one. The initial race for levels. Then the next step of guilds racing to be the first to accomplish X goal. That is was makes the games exciting. For the last year and a half, everyone in EQ is an top of the line guild. There is no more 1 or 2 guilds at the top of the food chain. Because no matter how many expansions SOE adds to EQ1, the game is played out and over flooded with max level characters.

Best I have read on this toilet bowl of a board yet:

Every time some guild says they are quitting or some big EQ personality retires, I try to give a shit but, it just never happens.
[/quote]
Finally someone got it right.
You people sound like a bunch of old farts whining about the cost of a loaf of bread. "in my day....etc etc"
Daily random EQ gasbag says:
"man I sure miss the days when at least I had a VIRTUAL life" "Man at least I rocked in some potheads opinion when I played Everquack"
Let's all go back to Pong while we're at it. I'm sure one of you burnouts were "uber" in someone's eyes on that nintendo 64.
The most pathetic thing about all of this is that you people give away how sad your real lives are by how you lament the trivial virtual garbage bygone days.
Bah-good riddance I say. You people would buy crap on a stick if I got enough people to stand around it and say "uber!".
