My commentary...
The 5 way deal:
Miami will be huge next year. Walker is a greedy mother fucker (shot selection) but he'll HAVE to know that Wade and Shaq come first on that team. He'll be a good fit for them.
I don't understand the Ostertag deal at all... why would Sloan want that lump of useless flesh back on his bench? He's not even making that much money, so... what's the point?
Current rumors:
Mavs interested in re-acquiring Nick Van Exel. That's good.
Mavs pursuing Doug Christie as the replacement for Michael Finley. That's good.

The off-season winners so far:
Cleveland Cavaliers. Totally. They might have the best backcourt in the league next year... 3 young studs... defensive minded Hughes with 'can-do-it-all' LBJ is badass. Resigning Z was perfect. It's like... they are doing what the Mavs WANTED to do last year: sign their free-agent AND PREVENT HIM FROM KILLING YOU LATER ON IN THE FUCKING PLAYOFFS (Hi Zan) and court all the free-agents you have your sights on. Dump your lumpy players (Gooden) on teams that will overpay for him. A+
Houston Rockets. Unless Dallas does something that fits perfectly (Christie would be cool... Gooden would be cool...), I seriously doubt that anyone will have us as the #2 team from Texas at the start of the season. Houston needed ONE thing for finals contention: a real PF. Stromile Swift was easily a top 10 FA this off-season... the fact that Houston grabbed him so quickly and so easily proves how much potential and 'fit' he sees in playing with them. Right now, SA>Houston>Dallas... and that pains me to write.
Miami Heat. Obvious #1 contender for 'best off-season' award. We'll see what the rest of the league does to match. Detroit and Indiana are likely in panic mode right now.
L.A. Lakers. I simply like the amount of young 'potential' talent that Jackson went after. He's done it in the past... he'll keep doing it. I won't say that they are a playoff team - yet... but Jackson ALONE makes a big difference.

i think move houston down to where sac is on that list and move everyone up a spot and thats what it will be. BUt who knows how bonzi will work out or garcia, hart etc

kings are also tryin to move skinner i believe.. but no takers so i think they are gonna try to sign a center. Kings also signed Ronnie Price, they said he is very much like bobby but better running the offense and better scorer and almost as good defensively.

Toronto WILL be a lotto team with a possibility at the WORST record in the league. They do have a lot of young talent.

Could be worse. I could ignore Kidd's shattered knee, Jefferson's injury history, Abdur-Rahim's inability to pass a physical, and Carter being a little bitch.

Jefferson's injuries were never 'that' bad... I mean, I'll take a season missed to a broken hand over Dirk's bum knees any day.
Half a Kidd is still better than 75% of the point-guards out there.
Carter was strong with NJ last year. If they get a 'decent' big man, they could be big. There is a lot of experience on that bench... and besides Carter (in Toronto, the capital of Whiney players), they aren't the 'whiney' experienced types (read: Minnesota).

Like I said, I picked them to make the playoffs long before this thread. They just won't be able to compete with the class of the East.

I'd put Indiana ahead of Miami, at least until we see if Walker behaves himself or if Shaq has to kill him. I'm not sold on Chicago yet. Some of the offseason dealings seem to have been rather acrimonious. Will all the players fall into line under Skiles again, or will we see a Seattle style implosion as the chemistry they captured last year implodes on them?
