Im amazed that this is even being argued. It shows pure ignorance, or stupidity, or both.
Yes the 49ers are the worse team by FAR in the NFL. However, they would still own ANY top college team.
The NFL is so far and above the college game its scary, hence why very very very few people actually go to the NFL, let alone star.
The NFL defenses, run so many different looks on defense, that college quarterbacks have never seen before. That is why almost ALL quarterbacks that come out of college have alot of problems their first couple of years. It takes that long to get used to how defenses will approach them. An example of this is Eli manning this year. He was a star in college, top ranked quarterback, first man taken in the draft, brother of Peyton, son of Archie. Yet he still looks like he has the deer in the headlights look when he plays. The only exception has been Roethesburger, yet even he hasnt been steller. He has been the product of the best running game in the NFL, and having a great core of recievers around him.
The NFL speed of the game that you have heard of is the real deal. Everyone that makes the jump describes it as the game being played fast forward on the VCR. You litterly have less than a second to decide what to do with the ball, wich hole to hit, who to block, who is blitzing, what coverage you are looking at, what route the recievers run.
In college, players are still developing, getting stronger. In the NFL they are all there, they have the BEST training rooms, better film study, more scouts, better trainers, better coaches. NFL players make a living on football, they do it year round. College you have way to many other things to deal with other than football.
Even the worst pro players are still there for a reason. THEY ARE PROS. They dont just take any tom, dick or harry off the street to play. They are there, because they are the best of the best (even if they are the worst).
College players just are not fast enough, big enough, smart enough, or strong enough to hold Pro players Jocks. Even if there are acouple of *POTTENTIAL* nfl players on the team.
The comments on Jerry Rice not being able to stay healthy in this league now is laughable as well. Nobody trained harder, or kept in better shape in the history of the league. He is the best player the NFL ever. At 42 he is still playing this game when 35 is about time to start retiring. Teams are not just keeping him around because he is jerry rice, they have him because he can still play.
Ive personally played basketball at a D2 lvl, football at D2 and semi pro, baseball at D2, semi pro, independant pro, and Professional. I know what im talking about on this one. It carries over to every sport. There are afew exceptions that come along every so often, but no college team could ever beat a pro team.
