Think of it this way... when you walk into certain restaurants and bars some of them have a sign on the front door that says, "WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYBODY."

There is a difference there. Those restaurants are privately owned. They do not have any state funding. Therefore they may come up with any rules, that do not violate segragation laws, among afew others.

The adoption agency IS state funded, so they do not have the right to refuse service unless they have determined that the would be parents are not fit to raise a child.. There was no good reason why these people were denied (and no religion is not a good reason).

The agency will be sued, and will be found guilty on this one like it or not.

As someone who works in a school with a large number of foster kids...are you out of your mind? I mean do you really, really believe that foster kids give a sh*t about what religion a potential family is? All that they care about is getting the hell out of a home where someone is taking money to "love" them. These kids dream about the day someone will adopt them. The last thing some poor kid is going to be doing is sitting on a bed gleefully rubbing their hands together saying "Man those CATHOLIC SCUM GOT OWNED!!!!1!!1!!!!"

Of course not. Kids don't know too much detail about religion and they probably wouldn't care. It's Christians that care, because they want to see a foster child grow up with a Christian denomination that isn't cultish and paganistic like the RCC. That's why I'm so grateful that Betheny is taking a firm stance on this... somebody has to.

Unfortunatly they seemed to miss the whole gov't funding thing that says they CANT DO THAT. They can not base their decisions on what religion people are. What part of religios FREEDOM do you not understand? In this country you are free to practice whatever religion you wish (even you), and no govn't or gov't funded agency can descriminate against you for those beliefs. The day they took their first cent from the gov't they gave up the operturnity to do deny a child a good loving home because of the families religios beliefs.

No adoption agency especially one that recieves any gov't funding should not be denying good parents children because of their religion.
