The next game I play has to have PvP. It adds a dynamic element, competition. This may sound silly, but I play EQ competitively... as do most uber people, everyone wants to be the best. The best cleric, the best enchanter, the most AA, the most hps, the first to do this, the first to do that. blah blah blah. Not everyone plays the game under this mind set, but a lot do. PvP just adds another element to it. It's the reason people play an online game instead of a single player game. Interaction, and competition. With the advent of instancing to cater to more casual players, PvP has to be the next stepping stone. I don't want a game where all players are created equal, thats fucking boring. That's why EQ is boring now. LoS, PoN, Euph are all farming the same content. KE, TFS, Decade, WD, Sap are all farming the same content. Their players are all similiarly equipped, they've all had years to spend getting massive amounts of AA's. The player base is becoming generic at the high end. Running around slaughtering each other would make it much more entertaining.

After playing a few years of DAOC and dabbling in L2, I can say PVP is a two edged sword. Its what makes DAOC a far superior game to EQ, the team versus team fights and relic steals are fun.

Racing for spawns is a pussy method of competition. Then again, contained PVP is not much better. Real competition can only be had via PVP.

The problem with PVP is you need to counter griefing, and have some sort of system in place that makes PVP meaningful, and yet chaotic. Ultima Online had the best system, and everything since then has been somewhat mediocre. SWG was on the right idea but had horrid balance.

There is no 'best' class. There are best groups, and the way to determine that is by fighting other groups. Racing for spawns just proves you have more time. Getting your ass handed to you in PVP proves a lot more, and is competitive, and putting ones money where there mouth is.

L2 is the best PVP game out now. You might want to try it.

I don't have the time to invest in L2, or I'd be there. After DAOC and SWG PVP I'm enjoying COH for now.

how does whether you move your guild over to a new game or start fresh and meet new friends have any relation to whether SoE cockblocks your guild in EQ?

i think you missed the point derrict

Unlimited pvp is good? Good for the original crowd who play, TERRIBLE for anyone else. While it may be "entertaining" if you were in the first batch, to go around killing greens and under-equipped people, that's not gonna win you many NEW customers(if you're out for business).

Really.. Now, I like pvp sometimes. But pvp at random is just bad. Yay, let's go corpse camp some level 6 who's playing their first char! That kinda stuff happened/happens(a lot) on open pvp servers/games.

Now, pvp vs. people who are similar? Yea, that's great stuff. 65's vs. 65's. Or on pvp servers for example white con's vs. white con's. 65's griefing 10's is just stupid.. and while YOU may not do it, a good amount of people do.

The only good pvp is contained.

--

Anyway.. Yay, a guild disbanded. Who cares. It isn't like some mass exodus... it's more than likely that the guild leader(s)/officer(s) decided to do so, rather than that 99% of the guild said fuck this I'm out~

Because people in high end guilds are sick of buying Sony's shit. Other games have come and gone but WoW finally seems to be the one that has any real attempt at taking a decent chunk of Sony's market share. SWG was suppose to be it but, well, it's a SOE game. I don't play FFXI or follow it so I have no real clue how it's doing; I just remember reading a few tidbits here and there and it's doing fine.

If WoW wasn't in existence, people will still come and go but I doubt we'd see whole guilds leaving EQ in mass exodus; they'd still be addicted to EQ and buy their shitty expansions. Losing a few here and there can be fixed by recruiting. Losing 30-40 as they leave to another game will pretty much end that guild.

i agree GoD sucks and it sucks even more they are releasing another expansion that will be broken so soon

however

i think what reynaldo said is interesting: that moving your guild over to WoW or EQ2 is not going to be as much fun as starting over and seeing what you can achieve alone

part of the fun of playing EQ was being a clueless noob who didnt know anyone, having to go lfg in north ro or wherever and get some dervish cutthroat rings and a bronze bracer, then landing in a variety of somewhat-successful but fun guilds while you finally work your way up to the top and get max level equip etc

personally I value a lot of the friends i met in EQ a great deal, and I'm not quite ready to quit EQ yet, but i think when i finally move on to WoW or whatever i'll be torn as to what i value more: the stability, strength, and friendships of staying with Crimson Tempest, or the adventure, risk, and new friends i might miss out on by not striking out on my own.

Having contained PVP is like going Deep Sea Diving in a swimming Pool.

And L2 has measures in place, and there is less griefing there than in EQ, even for latecomers.

If you want to see the wrong way to do PVP, go see Shadowbane, which I played for a while. It had good ideas, but bad implementation.

L2 has a good setup which treats things fairly, while promoting warfare in game. It is the best PVP game on the market.

Selling new expansions pays direct $$$, fixing old expansions that you already have the $$$ for does not. Backward Business 101.

Haha I doubt that's the reason. Considering many old school LoSers work for Blizzard.

personally i wasn't extended a beta account offer, can't speak for anyone else in CT but none that i know of

i'm too busy with school to keep more than a 65% raiding average right now for EQ so, it's probably for the best that i don't have another game to distract me

speaking of old drama, anyone have a copy of the squirrel nuts pic kicking around for durck?

No name has beens shouldn't pass judgement on any guilds.

The majority of people who left this game will be back with the next expansion.
