It's simple. If they demand people drive Fords, they should just give them one.

Either that or STFU about what other people are driving. How is it "not supporting the company" by purchasing a car that doesn't suck ass?

The rule wasn't just “no smoking at work”, but no smoking period. Not at work, home, anywhere.

The company won.

I'm a smoker but I agree with the company. Smokers cause more expensive health insurance premiums, health setbacks and all in all cost the company more money with their (well, our) unhealthy habit. They have a right to enforce that to save money. It's not fair to a smoker, but oh well. Quit if the job is that important.

You are confusing private policies with legal policies Diekan.

They aren't demanding or forcing people to buy Ford cars: they have no power to make people buy their cars or force them to do so - they are saying who can and can't park on their property. It isn't a violation of their rights in the slightest - people don't have an inherent legal right to park on Ford's private property, even if they are employees.

It'd be like some hippy liberal company making all their employees take the bus to work.

It'd be more akin to the Greenpeace people asking their directors not to park their Hummers in the corporate parking garage.

YOu guys are missing the POINT. The main REASON they only want them parking FORD cars in the FORD lot is because they want to promote AMERICANS to BUY AMERICAN. More than HALF of the parts are frm OVERSEAS.

this won't go on long... Ford makes shitty ass cars. Parking ain't going to solve the problem.

Maybe they should fire some executives and management for coming up with this shitbrained plan instead of spending their efforts on figuring out why no one wants their crappy cars.

Just hire Japanese designers/engineers and everything would be fine.

I would have just sectioned off a portion of the parking lot that is closer to the buildling to be designated as the 'ford only' lot. That way it rewards employees who buy ford by giving them less hassle in finding a space and less of a walk to the building. Giving your workers un-neccessary hassle is just moronic.

That said, the whole concept of parking rewards/penalties for buying ford cars is pretty stupid. Cars are expensive and most people don't replace them for at least 5 years, if not more. It's not like most people can just go out and buy a new car just so they can park in their work's parking lot. They're basically saying that they want to waste a worker's time and frustrate him for no reason for 5 years on the chance that he might buy a ford so he can park easier.

No I understand exactly what the issue is - but I'm being realistic.

Ok, so let's say you're a single person working at Ford. How many cars does a single person typically own? One. So, if that car happens to be a non-Ford product you can't get to work, because you can't park in the fucking parking lot. That IS fucking rediculous.

Let's say you're married and you own two cars. What if one's a Honda and the other is an Isuzu... what then?

What... you're supposed to go out and BUY a fucking Ford so you can go to work?

Yes, again I understand they're not saying you must buy a Ford - but if you don't own one - you seem to be fucked.

Not really. You just have to find somewhere else to park. Like i said earlier, I am pretty sure employees at Ford can afford a FORD car.

Unless the economic strains of making 85-100+ an hour to drive in a bolt is too hard for them to overcome.

Wow..they pay a lot more at the car plants down here. (Mercedes/Honda, etc)

Maybe 85/100 is a sarcastic strectch but last I checked, the majority of folks I know working at the plants out here were making well over 12 bucks.

    Thank You

"It was something this plant manager took upon himself. It's not a company-wide policy," Ford spokeswoman Anne Marie Gattari said

The ban applies to both salaried and hourly workers with permits to park on site. About 15 percent of Dearborn Truck employees have such permits. Employees who don't drive Ford products can still park in an employee lot across the street from the plant.

They (Honda specifically) dont offer the same benefits you will find at Ford or GM, so they can offer a slightly higher wage.

Starting out on an assembly line you dont make much. Salary employees do quite well from the start, but nowadays you need like 3 degrees to be considered.
