You aren't considering that old EQ did group vs group damage comparison, with the highest group damage getting the kill.
2 well equipped rogues and a wizard who did max DPS and got no aggro could easily KS from most good groups. Given the equipment difference, its pretty easy to believe.

we didn't get the kill, and there was a big stink with mudcrush getting on the corpse and saying he was going to loot everything and destroy it. A GM showed up and awarded us the kill because we engaged first and we were KSed. It wasn't 3 people vs a guild, we had a couple groups, LoS had enough to kill rumblecrush with what was there, otherwise we really wouldn't have had a leg to stand on with regards to BoD Ksing
As much as some people loved racing for spawns, and loved guild conflict, this kind of bullshit is something I won't ever miss.

to take it to an extreme, look at the AOW
when you're killed, the damage/hate you've contributed is wiped when it comes to considering looting rights
IE, if a mob has 1000 hp, and group A does 800 Damage, group B does 150 damage, and group C does 50 damage
everyone in group A but the cleric dies, group B gets looting rights cause there's no one left in group A that contributed to looting rights
Gear means a lot in eq, always did. I soloed vindi a few months before I quit, that right there is mudflation.
And it was the community that made eq what it was, not spawn racing. As much as my old guild (sanctuary) took a pounding from people, the old NT did a lot to create the sense of community. There was also the feeling of mystery, everybody was a newbie. People didn't know all the ins and outs of the game, you had people saying agil and dex were the most important thing in the world, then ac was king, until people found the ac cap.

Oooophh...I forgot about that. Fucking Everquest.
haha shit, i forgot the finish the thought about AoW
2nd or 3rd time we killed AoW, I got looting rights cause I was the longest living damage dealer at the time, even though I was solo (everyone had probably gone LD at least once, and everyone died at least once)
I'd probably only done 5-10k damage since my last death, but that was more than everyone else who splattered during enrage
Firstly, I would like to say that I have friends in a hundred different guilds.
I have respect for LoS because they have been helpful to me since day one. I have met some pricks in LoS. But who gives a shit? There are pricks in every guild.
BoD has always been cool to me as well. But BoD wasn't like a big brother to me as LoS has been since I was a newbie in 2000. A lot of my coolest stuff came from LoSerz. (And flags. Not to mention those who have helped me take care of AH through the years. I thank you guys for that!)
I know my opinion doesn't really matter anywhere in this world. That's the beauty of the internet. So blah blah blah...The End.
If I ever left my guild to see the high end, which isn't going to happen, I would try out for LoS. IF I didn't pass the veto, I would go back to AH and farming for my own selfish reasons.
