Is there a solution? <kids and smoking>

I dont like little kids to think that guns are toys. If they arent talked to by their parents at home, they could find a gun and shoot someone with it.
So I didnt allow it in my class, as my own personal battle against kids and guns.

The parents could let their kids do whatever they wanted at home, but they couldnt play guns in my class. I also let parents know this, to try and reinforce it at home if they wished.

Darc thats a smart move. I know I have talked about it before but I am very anti guns with kids because of Ciera (almost 2 year old) who was shot by a 6 year old.

I didn't let my kids even use the word gun until my oldest started to realize that "pew pew" was the same thing as gun. I didn't allow them to even play shoot one another either nor point there finger/hand in the shape of a gun.

I don't think young childeren have the ability to understand what a gun is and the impact it can make. I look at it like fire, don't let your kids play with fire until they have a respect for it and understand the impact it can make to you and to everything around you.

There is alot of detail I've omitted just to keep this short but I would fully back what Darc did regardless of the parents choice. Do what you want to the kid at home but the kid shouldn't be allowed have unacceptable behavoir at "school"

That is a true story, however, I don't believe playing guns as a boy led to the incident. I just thought it was funny to point that out, because it actually happened.

The majority of us grew up playing cops and robbers. Most of us grew up fine. I'm getting tired of the mentality that society has to take it upon themselves to parent MY child when I feel that I am doing a fine job alone.

Its not the violence on TV or video games, not the easy access to smokes and drugs, and not the lacking school systems that are causing our children to become dregs. It is the laws that protect the children that are the cause of this.

I lived in fear of getting spanked if I did something wrong. Bring back the ass-paddlings and the belt and the "wait till your father gets home!" Today's children have no respect for their parents because the parents are all pussies! Granted, they are pussies due to society looking down on a good ass beating for being caught smoking in the woods behind the house.

I say we bring back the "Drop your pants, bend over the bed and if you move It'll only hurt more." (I always hated when the belt would wrap around and hit my balls) :eyecrazy:

I havent developed evil eye yet. Even if I did, my girl is only 1 1/2, so no use anyway.

I dont/didnt allow them to play guns because what if tomorrow they were to find a gun. They pick it up and shoot their foot off or shoot some random person, or their parent. By letting them know that guns are dangerous and not toys, hopefully, it would steer them away from not picking it up.
When I was a freshman, the kid who used to live across the street from me was shot in the head by his friend who was playing with my friend's dad's gun. He lived but he is muuuch slower now and he cant control some of the things he says. I didnt want any of my kids growing up like that.
It's not fear so much as taking preventative measures. Do you tell yous kids not to play in busy streets? Not to play with fire? Why? Yes, because it's not safe and neither are guns.

I think if you define reality and fantasy to a child it's safe for them to do the whole fictitious gunplay thing. I don't think there's anything wrong with a little pretend cops and robbers. However, I wouldn't let them play GTA San Andreas or watch an extremely violent movie.

Are you going to let your kids ride in cars and buses? because I used to know a lot more people who died / got injured in car wrecks than I know that were injured because of guns.

Oh for fuck's sake.

I don't like guns.
I wont let my kids play with toy guns nor let them make other objects like legos into guns.
What they do away from me, I have no control over, but in front of me, I dont like it.
I asked the kids to play with something else or distracted them with something else. I didnt freak out or whatever you have in your mind I did. It's just like warning your kids not to play with a candle or stand too close to a fireplace or stove. It's hot. Well guns hurt.

I think I touched my first gun (BB guns!) at a tender young age and shot one with gunpowder around 8 or 9. I'm glad my parents didn't have any of your guys' concerns or I totally would've missed out on all the fun. The only rule a kid needs to know about guns is "don't point it at anybody's face, EVER. always point it at the ground." that's the only rule about guns we ever got told.

i don't give my kids guns and guns aren't allowed at school either

when my kids get old enough, my dad can take em out deer hunting and they can learn about guns then..

except the fact that he now uses a bow

The "golden" gun rule I got was: Never point a gun at anything you do not intend to shoot.

There were of course other safety rules such as keeping it unloaded while in transit,
keeping it pointed at the ground when carrying it, etc.

I've probably shot a bow more often than a gun. I miss doing that.

Dudes its not guns that are unsafe its iresponsibility. Kids played army men and cops and kill bad guys for generations were fine. Its a relitivly new idea that toy guns or gun play causes violence. Sted of teachin em guns bad teach em gun safety they will be much safer that way .

Thats why you teach them the diffrence between real guns and fake guns that way that accident doesnt happen. World of diffrence between play and real as a parent its your job to teach them as such. If you demonize guns but dont teach em what they goin do at a friends house ?

The most dangerous thing to a child IMO is ignorance, and keeping them sheltered.

My parents kept everything very open with me, there was no allure to anything, no feeling to "rebel" against what they told me was OMGZ BAD...

This is just my belief of course.
