I dont/didnt allow them to play guns because what if tomorrow they were to find a gun. They pick it up and shoot their foot off or shoot some random person, or their parent. By letting them know that guns are dangerous and not toys, hopefully, it would steer them away from not picking it up.
When I was a freshman, the kid who used to live across the street from me was shot in the head by his friend who was playing with my friend's dad's gun. He lived but he is muuuch slower now and he cant control some of the things he says. I didnt want any of my kids growing up like that.
It's not fear so much as taking preventative measures. Do you tell yous kids not to play in busy streets? Not to play with fire? Why? Yes, because it's not safe and neither are guns.
