What does the flag actually stand for? I seem to recall this being a country based on freedom. This law is desecrating their sacrifices and their memory. Many people have died to protect the freedom that we hold dear today, and now many are cheering the removal of some of that freedom. The true test of freedom is allowing people to burn that very symbol in protest. We should be erasing the freedom that we have and not attempting to smother it out of existence.

The previous post actually makes a good point. What is the next step? Will it become illegal to burn clothing that is a representation of the flag? Will it become illegal to make clothing that represents the flag?

What is the next freedom we will give up? Will we blindly welcome it as many blindly welcome this? In 100years, or 200years when people look back, will we still be a free people, or will we be a people constantly worrying that our actions might be considered unpatriotic and land us in prison.

Why? Not that I'd wear a shirt like that, but it doesn't offend me at all... quite the contrary. People that wear U.S. Flag shirts wear them because they are proud to be Americans. Honestly, what is wrong with that, in your opinion?

I think they are tacky looking is my only problem. Of course, I'm not a hick, I'm just surrounded by them.

it was a jab at goofy rednecks man - the same type of people that support a trivial amendment like this.

first and foremost, that flag should symbolize freedom. a constitutional amendment making burning it illegal, whether i agree with it or not, just doesnt strike me as being free.

Burning a flag is not "free speech." You can still say whatever you want. Burning the U.S. flag is an act, not a mode of speech. The only time a U.S. Flag should be burned is if it accidentally touches the ground.

You know what bothers me. People who think they need the government to make laws like this to prove a point. If you don't like someone burning the flag, then say something about it. Knock their teeth out and piss on them, whatever but don't go lobby congress to fight for you. If you want to defend the flag, then do so but don't force someone else to do it for you.

Because the flag doesn't favor either side of the political fence. If you're mad at current policy, burn a picture of your most hated political figure who is supporting what you're against personally. Somebody mentioned that earlier. It makes sense.

Knocking somebody's teeth out and pissing on them (although you may feel like doing it) for having an opposing viewpoint isn't the civil thing to do either. I fully support this new amendment. The U.S. flag is sacred in a way. That's how I feel about it.
