Conservatives stand strongly behind big business - the very definition of greed of gluttony. You stand idly by and scoff at the environmentalists who are warning you that we need to stop what we're doing to the planet. Conservatives walk around very proud of what they've obtained, or mostly, what they've stolen from others. Judgemental? Do I realllllly need to point out examples of this for you?

Liberals make better Christians than do most conservatives, yet a great deal of them don't even believe in a divine creator.

The only "God" the conservatives truly worship is the mighty dollar and they will try to crush any and every one/thing that stands in their way of more and more and more and more wealth.

You're not champions for Christianity... you're hyprocites masking your true intentions behind the Cross.

Obviously you're set in your ways. I don't want to turn this into a flame war, but most people (not here on the NT though) would highly disagree with you.

I tend to listen to scientists with matters in the realm of science. You go right ahead and listen to pastors and holly men. They totally know what's going on with the environment.

It has nothing to do with "liberalism."

It IS highly unfortunate that environmentalism is associated with those granola eating, tree hugging, hippies that would rather we all resort back to the stone ages.

That's your problem, Mindia. The Rush's of your side use those types of people to deface the true problem behind the scene.

Conservatives support big business. Big business plays a major role in the destruction of the environment. Conservates will use any ammunition they can garner in support of big business (aka money) and to derail anything that could potentially serve as a hinderance to making a profit.

To acknowledge that there is a problem with the environment, to acknowledge that global warming is a reality is to suggest that companies will have to surrender some of their profits to modify, retrofit, change, whatever their practices and plants in order to combat the problem.

"Taking away" their profits isn't something that sits well with you.

The almighty dollar is > than the lives of thousands who die every year from fossil fuel related respiratory illnesses. The almighty dollar is > the health and well being of this planet.

These high dollar big businesses that you cherish so much have spent generations destroying the planet, ruining countless lives, putting the country in jeapordy, and embracing greed and gluttony with open arms. Yet, despite these abominations in the eyes of God - you rally around them because Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and others have you so blinded that you're unwilling to accept the truth of the matter.

Me either, I can't stand political pundits of either side. So, instead, I actually read the reports on the science itself. Guess what I've learned from examining the actual science: Global warming is real, humans are contributing to it, and it's going to get worse unless we take action immediately.

I don't care for Rush Limbag, nor do I care for big corporations running everything into the ground. You are generalizing big time. I do like Sean Hannity though. I do care for the environment. I recyle. I don't litter. You might say that "I play my part" in environmental conservation efforts. I also know that global warming is cyclical, and that you cannot blame global warming on big bad corporations and diesel trucks emitting ozone-depleting particulates.

Frankly, I don't care what you think Diekan. You're just another arm-chair quarterback spewing forth crap you listen to from biased sources like "algore, the complete retard" or The New York Crimes. You also displayed what little you actually knew about me. No surprise there though.

HINT: Just because people label themselves as "Conservative," doesn't mean they support big oil corporations or other unethical corporations like Enron. It also doesn't mean that they don't care for the environment.

That's exactly my point entirely. We are not the cause. We are simply not helping the situation any with our lack of care for environmental repercussions in most of what we do industrially.

Really? I guess I'm just wasting my time earning a Master's degree (one year to go) in BIOLOGY - backed by a Bachelor's degree in BIOLOGY.

Biology has exactly what to do with environmental sciences may I ask? (I'm not being a prick entirely. I am just curious if there is a relation that is relevant to this discussion)

Mindia, I think I've established, at least to a reasonable degree, the fact that I know what I'm talkijgn about when it comes to science matters, yes? Well, I tell you once more, that Global Warming *IS* real, period. Yes, there are cyclical effects to the climate. However, what we are doing is, at the very least, massively accelerating those changes, which has potentially dire effects. Animals and systems which have adapted to changes that might take, say, 10,000 years, are not going to be able to handle the changes if they take, say, 100. And that's what we're doing.

It would *NOT* cost us that much to adhere to the Kyoto provisions; Bush's figure of "5 million jobs" is a farce that was pulled out of a hat, and has no basis in fact. Yes, some large industrial and power companies would be forced to eat large chunks of their current profits to re-invest in their business to pay for pollution control upgrades, and some might even lose jobs. However, there will be large numbers of new jobs that open up at the businesses that produce those pollution controls.

As for Al Gore, did you know that pretty muche very environmental scientist that I've read about that has seen his movie says that it is just about spot on? Dislike the man all you want, and I know you do, but that doesn't necessarily mean that his message is necessarily invalid. I know you don't think he'd be a good president, but that's not what the discussion is about at this point.

you don't need a degree, or even to read the news to find out about the latest developments in science, from global warming to long term effects of smoking pot you can find all sorts of studies here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?DB=pubmed. I did most of my thesis research here, it's an invaluable site to find out what the scientific community is up to.

edit: fixed it so the link worked
