To acknowledge that there is a problem with the environment, to acknowledge that global warming is a reality is to suggest that companies will have to surrender some of their profits to modify, retrofit, change, whatever their practices and plants in order to combat the problem.

I don't care for Rush Limbag, nor do I care for big corporations running everything into the ground. You are generalizing big time. I do like Sean Hannity though. I do care for the environment. Mindia, I think I've established, at least to a reasonable degree, the fact that I know what I'm talkijgn about when it comes to science matters, yes? Well, I tell you once more, that Global Warming *IS* real, period. Yes, there are cyclical effects to the climate. However, what we are doing is, at the very least, massively accelerating those changes, which has potentially dire effects. Animals and systems which have adapted to changes that might take, say, 10,000 years, are not going to be able to handle the changes if they take, say, 100. And that's what we're doing.

It would *NOT* cost us that much to adhere to the Kyoto provisions; Bush's figure of "5 million jobs" is a farce that was pulled out of a hat, and has no basis in fact. Yes, some large industrial and power companies would be forced to eat large chunks of their current profits to re-invest in their business to pay for pollution control upgrades, and some might even lose jobs. However, there will be large numbers of new jobs that open up at the businesses that produce those pollution controls.

As for Al Gore, did you know that pretty muche very environmental scientist that I've read about that has seen his movie says that it is just about spot on? Dislike the man all you want, and I know you do, but that doesn't necessarily mean that his message is necessarily invalid. I know you don't think he'd be a good president, but that's not what the discussion is about at this point.

you don't need a degree, or even to read the news to find out about the latest developments in science, from global warming to long term effects of smoking pot you can find all sorts of studies here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?DB=pubmed. I did most of my thesis research here, it's an invaluable site to find out what the scientific community is up to.
