I'm gonna vote for the extra tax on cigarettes, and laugh at everyone I know who smokes whine about it. Smoking isn't a necessity, you don't need it to survive, and it doesn't even provide sustinance. At least red meat can help keep you alive. Smoking is a purely voluntary habit, that harms OTHER PEOPLE, not just you. Sorry, different situations. You don't want to pay the tax, don't smoke.

I loved when they banned smoking in any restraunt/bar that doesnt make 80% of their money from alcohol sales. If anything just to listen to everyone bitch and moan about it.

that smoking ban thing is pretty exciting for non-smokers, though. i remember how excited i was the first time i went out to the bars in lincoln and came home NOT smelling like stank, stale smoke. i was able to pass out without showering, wake up in the morning, and still be able to stand smelling myself. hurrah!

Yeah, when I started seeing my GF, I lived in NO, and she lived in NYC. NYC was the first city I went to with a smoking ban in bars. It was awesome. In NO I cant stay in crowded bars too long, makes me ill.

California has an even stronger smoking ban than the one Gaazy talked about. You can't smoke in *ANY* public building in California, period. Not in bars, not in restaurants, nothing. It's been a real boon to people like my father, who as I've mentioned previously, is hyper-sensitive to smoke, due to severe asthma. Smokers here have to go otuside to smoke, which is especially humorous when it's cold, windy and rainy, seeing them huddled together like sheep in sleet, puffing away on their cancer sticks.

No, it's ok to protect people who don't want to breath poison.

We have the same deal here in Ottawa. We were one of, if not the first, city in North America to have a smoking ban in all public buildings. People went apeshit when it was first introduced, saying bars would close, restaurants wouldn't be making any money, and within a few months everything stabilized and I don't have to specify smoking or non when I go get some grub.

Since last year, you can't smoke in public parks in San Francisco.

In Washington you cant smoke in any building and must be 20 ft from the entrance of buildings to smoke. Friend of mine got sited for walking past a store front in downtown Olympia while smoking.
