It's not evil. It's called payback. She's hopped Hailey on sugar too many times and then dropped her back off here. For once, I get to do it.

hey...grandmas pull that shit all the time....I am always sure to give them enough energy to thoroughly enjoy grandma's house before they go! I really enjoy giving them sugar right before they go with their father. But that's another story.

sugar gives you a rush similar to caffiene but not the same thing

so yah, it's a quick high or whatever but the coming down (like caffeine) makes you feel really dumped. so kids+sugar=extra extra hyperactivity. I mean, small children are just like little screaming orgasms running around, they are never-ending and full of energy. every time they have sugar/caffeine you're jacking them up so to speak

by orgasm, I meant the ultimate happiness that is achieved and that compared to the happiness these small children exhibit (to avoid any confusion there...)

oh-and then when they're coming down, they're whiney and tired and they dont' feel good. you need to give them more sugar and caffeine so they'll feel better.

Sugar causing hyperactivity in children is a myth, with direct medical evidence against it.

Hyperactivity refers to increased movement, impulsiveness, distractibility, and decreased attention span. A popular myth has developed that this condition is related to sugar intake or use of artificial sweeteners by children.

Research comparing children eating sugar to those eating other foods or artificial sweeteners has not confirmed any connection with hyperactivity.

However, sugar and excess activity may appear to be linked because sugar is often consumed at events like birthday parties or other social events which tend to produce excitement and greater activity levels even in the absence of sweets.

It's not a myth.

I can guarantee none of those researchers actually have children. :P

I didn't know you had kids tacks.

Arlos is correct though, sugar doesn't "cause" hyperactivity. That doesn't mean sugar can't cause kids to become hyper. You see hyperactivity is a "disorder" of sorts. All they are saying is that sugar does not cause the disorder hyperactivity.

That isn't saying sugar doesn't cause kids to be hyper. Not sure of the study but sugar!=corn syrup and corn syrup is generally the sweetner used is many candies and almost all soda's. corn syrup breaks down in the body differently than true sugar.

I would say any parent that has kids would agree, sugar makes their kid hyper it all depends on the level.

One of the ways this was tested is the researchers got a set of families with kids to study, and then secretly designated some as the control group, and some as the experiment group. They then gave each family a bottle of pills, with orders to give their kids a certain number of them at specific times, then watch the behavior. The pills the experiment group got were absolutely pure sugar, end they got easily enough dosage to match them eating a mess of sweets. The control group kids's pills were placebos, with no medical impact at all, and zero sugar. The parents had no idea which group they were part of, as the pills were made to be identical between control and experimental groups.

They found that there was no statistical difference in the behavior of the kids getting sugar from the kids getting placebos.

Thus, the hyperactivity being caused by sugar itself IS a myth.

Now, if kids get hyper after sweets because they're somethign special, they feel they just got a "Treat", they associate it with parties, etc. that is a different matter. But the underlying cause would be psychological, not physiological.

I would still question the form of sugar used. Folks react to corn syrup differently than "table sugar" or sugar from cane.

I'd also be curious to know how much sugar one can actually put in a pill. I'm not up on all the different concentration techniques available but other then melting it down to carmal, or whatnot, can you actually change cane sugar's "mass"?

Regardless though, if corn syrup was NOT used or was NOT the largest ingredient in the sugar test, then the test is based on a false pretense.

Very few "sweet" products we consume have sugar as a main sweetner and is often second or third to corn syrup.

I'm not questioning the entire thing but if you don't know anything about the topic stfu.

I do know something about corn syrup and cane sugar and how each can affect the body differently.

Yeah I know scientists are NEVER wrong. It isn't like they ever thought the world was flat, aye?

Stop believing everything you read from "science". Just like they said butter is worse then margerine. Now they say margerine is signficiatnly worse for you than butter. They said eggs were bad, good, no bad, alcohol - good, bad, good if you have 2 beers. Nicotene bad, o wait, good, no bad, ok good if you use for this or that.

I'm glad we have readers here that take everyones post as truth /sheesh.

EDIT
BTW it isn't "Arlos" i'm questioning, but the full scope of the study and all the aspects it was delivered in.

We dont give Hailey sweets a lot. In fact, we normally dont have them in the house. When we do, we dont make a thing about it when we give it to her, so she doesnt see cake or a cookie as a "treat". I notice, after chocolate cake, for instance, that she is running around more, wiggling more, and then crashes hard. Very cranky, wants to hit peopple, wont listen.

I don't keep soda in the house, or candy. I bake them a cake if they get a hankering for some sweets. I also keep fruit constantly.

I used to, though.
