you're never ever going to listen to all of it in 1 sitting, so don't pay a premium for a large device when you simply don't need it
i've got a 20gb lyra, and a 2gb kpex(expands to 6gb with a sd card)
the kpex gets used a billion times more simply because it's smaller, lighter, and has a radio built in
iPods are trendy peices of shit that are marketed amazingly well
head to head, feature for feature they're not as good as a lot of the others, and when you consider you're paying a premium for a lesser device....

Roadtrip or listening at work. Only possible reasons.

don't encode you music at a retardly high bit rate then
you're not going to be able to tell the difference coming out of a shitty mp3 player anyways, might as well save some space
I do all mine at 192 max. I cannot tell the difference hearing wise with anything higher than 192. It keeps them down to a reasonable size but not sounding like shit.
Somedays I want to listen to comedy so bust listen to that for a while, other days a little country. Some days I'm really pissed off and need some anger music. I just never know what I'll want to listen too. The best part is I can use my player to record meetings and store files on it, when they're larger than 1gig (my pen drive is only 1 gig).

my kpex can read .txt files too
also, can watch video, and play video games omg

Yeah mine can do all that except video games. Ipods are just like everything else apples makes, they look really cool but they are seriously over priced.
