I predict that human beings will have to resort to cutbacks at some point in the future and because of this many people will suffer and it will lead to chaos on the earth. Some religions predict this as being a sign of something, depending on what you believe and even nonreligious people are curious as to what will happen if the end of time comes, and what might bring that about.

if people neglect to care for their environment in the ways that we neglect it, with the rapid pace we do it, it will only cause chaos for every human being living during that time. animals and sea creatures as well.

Increase in one thing, decrease in its balance will deffinatly dramatically effect the atmosphere.

The net oxygen produced by all the rainforests in the world is neglible.
I think that the rainforests should stay due to the uncatalogued biodiversity, however they simply do not play a role in this topic.

If you want to talk about the impact of soil erosion on phytoplankton & other forms of microalgae, then we can chat.

The net oxygen produced by all rainforests is not neglible at all. Especially when you couple them with Mass clear cutting of non rain forest areas, among other vegitation and plant life that is disturbed and destroyed.

It does play a role in this topic, because it does, and will continue to effect the environment as the years past. Im certainly no tree hugging hippie, but i cant believe you would say that cutting down trees has no effect on the environment.

If you would like, we can chat about microalgae also. :boots:

microalgae must be worse than macroalgae. if algae is bad to begin with, that is. what makes algae bad?

It contains harmful bacteria.

No I was pointing out that while corporation bias was obvious, individual scientists bias lies in the need to have a problem to reasearch to continue to receive a pay check... or find another job. This of course is not true of all scientists be they on either side of the issue, but money does have the insidious nature of a strong pull toward bias.

You have to assume things of people that I think is pretty unfair. Corporations are soulless and evil, that's well documented. But to say that a scientist who has devoted his entire life to a cause is only doing so to get grant money from the government and cook up false research is just too conspiracy theory for me.

Last night a spider fell from the ceiling and landed on the bed and I watched it happen. I looked at scott who was sleeping and unaware of the spider and then my kitty Natalie leaped across the bed and put her nose right on the spider. I laughed out loud, I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen, my realization of that spider being there, scott unaware of it and my kitten aware and so gentle.

the next thing I did was without hesitation or thought. I flicked the spider (after bursts of laughter) and I immediately felt bad. scott hadn't hurt the spider. my kitten didn't, either. I did...and I was the one who had the most power to get away from it without killing it. had the spider been squished by scott in his sleep, or eaten by my kitten, then he still would have died. if i hadn't seen him, he would have still been there. if I hadn't killed him, I wouldn't have felt bad.

dunno why algae made me think of this story. I suppose I just wonder if we didn't know it was there..would it still hurt us?

Algae isnt necessarily bad. There are good types and bad types. Macro algae (sea weed for instance) takes Co2 and converts it to oxygen in the water for animals. It also can act as a filter, filtering nitrates and phosphates.

Microalgae is a photosynthetic organism as well, just smaller (micro la). Due to its very simplistic cell structure, it could be used as a energy source in the future, and they are certainly vital to the ecosystem.

It is considered that 2/3 to 3/4 of the earths oxygen that we breathe comes directly from algae. Forgot to add that in there.

It's well documented that often times people look out for thier own best interests on some level. I did not mean to suggest that they fabricate everything, but inaccuracies or dismissal of pertinent information may well happen even if it's not on a consious level.

Not exactly. It was the only way to Spell Xavier, to get past the gay name filters in Everquest way back when. Believe the pronunciation would be ....X aiv-e-err. Or X-A-V-or is how i always pronounced it.

As far as the micro/macro algae goes, that is just the tip of the iceberg on the subject.

Its a very interesting subject imho. Its amazing that every organism is vital to our everyday life, and how it interacts with eachother.

As i said before, im not a tree hugging hippy, i dont plan to strap myself to a tree in front of a bulldozer. However being aware of how things work in nature is extremely important to understanding what we as people are doing to the planet. It goes so much deeper than just global warming being, "hey the earth will be warmer"

I agree with you, it is amazing that every organism is vital to our everyday life. part of me believes that if we did not help each other we would eliminate our species. the animals would be happy then probably then, haha. we'd no longer be chasing them around and killing them, so they'd be able to live in peace, which is happiness (to me.) even for animals that cannot think consciously..they will achieve the level of happiness they can understand, which in their inability to think, is just freedom from a species they have to protect themselves from.

a lot like in how we couldn't survive in a world of dinosaurs without containing them or killing them off. they would be a danger to us, and our happiness because we would always be trying to avoid suffering and being eaten by the dinosaurs. (the carnivore ones.)

I have a fuckton of green hair algae growing in my show aquarium and it's driving me nuts. I am going to have to start growing a different kind of algae in my sump to hopefully absorb all of the nitrates and phosphates and starve the hair algae in the show tank.

I saw a chick at Costco today that had golden brown hair, with blonde highlights streaked through it. It looked very seggzy. :hiphop:

my hair is full of dark/light brown and dark/light blonde naturally. my hair looks highlighted naturally...I don't want anymore color in it but thought of putting instead of green, (but my eyes are green thought it would be a good color choice depending on the shade of green of course (not witch-green or anything) plus I'm blonde..what about instead a purple/brown mix. I wonder if for winter these colors are much more compatible with my blonde/fair skin/green eyes

Im really sorry about the derail. carry on =)

The green hair dye only lasts a few days and then starts looking like a chlorine stain.
