Any Bottled Water Drinkers?

I don't think this is really "new" but sort of funny either way.

I also know there is an oustanding issue regading Nestle Bottled water and how it comes from Lake MI (iirc), different issue (e.g. is there environmental risk / affect, etc), but it seems that just bottling your own water from the tap is still the best thing to do :)

bottled water is stupid. it doesn't make sense. filtered water makes sense, yet I still drink tap water. I know some people can't do this. I have family that live 45 minutes from me whose water smells like rotten eggs (I think that's sulfur) and they use a water cooler to drink from and they have a filter also. I wouldn't want to drink that water, either. In this case I think it's alright. it costs more to drink bottled water than it does to fuel your car.

I buy bottled water cases, then just keep the bottles, fill them up with water, and reuse them for a few months

I hate the way bottled water tastes. It's weird I can taste something very artificial like plastic almost. It really grosses me out.

I have a big water cooler at my place though, and that stuff tastes fine.

The only reason we buy bottled water is so we can take it on the go. Otherwise, we have a filtered water spout in our fridge.

I normally buy 1 bottle and just keep refilling it up over and over out of the water jugs we have. Saves bottles too heh

That is a big no-no.

Refilling those plastic bottles with water and reusing them is begging for illness. You may have been lucky up until now and haven't had a single incident, but it's just that, luck.

Reuse those plastic bottles ONCE, no more.

The plastics used in single-use bottled water break down easily and are dangerous to your health.

Polyethylene Teresomeshit, PET. (polyester based plastic?)

That is of a minor consequence in comparison to the fact that because of this degradation it becomes porous and is a breeding ground for bacteria.

Washing it thoroughly eliminates or lessens one problem and creates another.

I've heard this as well, just like if you micro wave some plastics you'll taste them in your food, that taste is essentially poison.

Like what Harri said, I don't know if there is a safe way to clean those bottles without having some nasties getting into your system.

Yeah I was going to say something about that too, I just am too lazy to go find the statistical evidence. Someone told me it was really bad for you when they saw me filling up from our office water cooler using the same bottle.

I bought a RO/DI system for my aquarium so I use that for drinking water. It's about as pure as you can get.

I'll read more of that as it may mention this part, but as I understood it, the cleaning process that causes the problem is the heat. Say you boil the bottles or put them in your dishwasher, etc.

All I know is some food/water plastics I can actually taste in the food/water, and if I can taste it, that makes me think it isn't such a good thing.

Yeah I hear what you are saying. Every time I reuse a bottle of water more than once it starts to taste kind of weird, like metallic.

No, I drink the same water I use to make my saltwater for the aquarium.
