Mart posted this in another thread too

now now Lyion, what have we learned about saying it's a 2 man race! Huck was counted out before, and he outlasts Romney.. but Paul is still around too

now of course I'm realistic and don't think my guy will get the nomination, but you have to appreciate the irony in how long he's lasted with his rope-a-dope strategy and letting them just fall on their own

You should've learned in the very least not to count your eggs before they hatch =p

I do wonder what's going to happen now though - it certainly spices things up

My bad.

On the democratic side, it's down to Hillary, Barack, and Mike, also, I guess. :dunno:

it's pretty easy to stay in a race when you pace yourself for last place.

all romney dropping out will do is give huckabee a few more votes cause mccain is a piss poor excuse for a conservative.

I must admit that while Paul IS staying in the race, he hasn't exactly been ringing up tons of delegates. What's his best showings so far? A pair of 2nd places?

I hate to be the voice of realism here, as I realize how much y'all like him, but it'd take a miracle, like him winning pretty much every state from here on out (which ain't gonna happen) for him to take the nomination. I just don't see it happening, I'm sorry. (and do remember that while he's not MY candidate of choice, I DO like him better than McCain or Huckabee, so I'd LIKE to see him do well, he just hasn't been.)

I really don't care if he's not the nom. I'll vote for him even if I have to write him in.

Yeah, but you could do that even if he dropped from the race 2 seconds from now.

I think Mickey Mouse is the perennial write-in winner, and gets a few hundred thousand votes every Presidential election.

I know...but it's my way of saying none of the above. All the remaining candidates are a bunch of poll watching pit vipers.

I totally get that, and I'm very realistic in knowing that he doesn't really stand a chance

I'm still very happy that he's still sticking around, though, and while it's easy to pawn him off because he's not done as well as the others in the polls, the fact still remains that he consistently gets financial support from people who want him to be the next nominee, which is more than can be said for most of the GOP candidates

And I respectfully disagree with you Tuggan - Im not really sure how he's paced himself for last place so much as the little snide comments that have been made in the news about him have kind of stuck him in the background.. he and his supporters have really been out there trying to campaign. I'll say one thing - it's easy to do well when you pay for everything out of your own pocket. Getting people who support you enough to donate frequently and do their best to help you do well speaks volumes to me, and the fact that Paul is still raising money even after his less than stellar finishes says that people are still going to support him and thats at least a little reassuring, even if he doesn't get the nomination. It says that there are people out there who aren't leaning toward the mold of what 'conservative' has become.. theres not a single republican candidate I've seen until Paul who actually holds the values of a true conservative and what it meant in the first place.

Seeing Romney fall just makes me smile. Someone who prides himself in being such a good businessman going broke.. I mean come on, who cant appreciate the funny there

I don't think it's that he's gone broke at all. One of the Colbert Report's guests (someone from the National Review) was talking about it, actually. A big reason why he's dropping out now is that he wants to run again sometime in the future, and if he sticks it out to the end and still loses, it'll hurt him way more for next time than if he just drops out now.

My dad cracks me up, hes an adamant Romney fan and thinks there's some conspiracy - his exact words were "McCain and Huckabee met in a back office somewhere and discussed how Huckabee could take Romney's delegates. Romney was poised to take them all and Huckabee and McCain fixed it"

I think it'll be a conspiracy the other way and Romney will be McCain's running mate!

I can't even believe that Romney dropped out. He was the ONLY person capable of doing the job. The speech he gave this morning gave me goosebumps. I wish he would've spoken with that much passion and conviction several weeks ago and gotten people all jacked up to vote for him. Instead, he tried the route of middle-of-the-road-leaning-slightly-to-the-right politics and it blew up in his face. /sigh Now the only other choice is McCain, who I will hesitantly vote for in November. :(

I could vote for Obama quite happily, actually.

Mindia, you do know he is not now, nor has he ever been Muslim. His father was, but Barack himself is quite staunchly Christian, and has actually written a book about the importance of people not abandoning faith. Now, I realize he differs from you on a lot of social issues, but you must be aware that your views are hardly universal, even among all Christians.

What I like about him is that he's had the courage to actually tell people the truth, even if it's something they don't want to hear. Like when he told an audience in Detroit that America's future depended on getting away from our dependence on oil and move to alternate fuels.

Also, he isn't promising to go out and fix things himself, or promising that if he's elected everything will be easy. Instead, he is appealing to this country's great spirit of idealism, and promising to help everyone to work on fixing things together. Very much a "ask not what this country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" type of attitude, which I think is a very very refreshing change from generations of politicians.

I know you and he will never agree on things like abortion, etc. but I think you're being overly unfair in your categorization of the man, and encourage you to actually look at what he's saying and what he stands for, and not just listen to the blathering of people like Rush, Coulter, etc. about him. I think you'll find he's nothing like the demon you're painting him to be.

Now, Hillary, I'm not even going to get into, as I have my own reservations about her. So, think whatever you might wish about her. But Obama I think you've got all wrong. Sure disagree on social matters, but I think you'll find you may not be that far apart from him on other areas.

I call him Obama bin laden in jest, and him being black has nothing to do with why I don't care for him at all. He's a liberal, and if elected, he will appoint pro-abortion asstards to the supreme court. He wants to pull our troops out of Iraq, and that would be a huge mistake, because we will then be looked at by the opposition as weak, and as pussies... which would then in turn makes us prone to more attacks. He won't strengthen our borders to the extent it needs to be. Funny how Obama and his flock of liberal sheep are anti-war, yet pro abortion... quite an oxymoron. Also, just being a good orator doesn't mean you know how to run a country either. I listen to his jaw-jacking and can only think, "what a bunch of bullshit." He's not pulling the wool over MY eyes.

I don't care what Rush, or Coulter, or Hannity, or any of them have to say about Obama. I look at what he represents. I think for myself and formulate my own opinions. Yeah, sure... he's probably not the worst thing that could come along on the Dem side, but he's still WAY to liberal for me, and he's not what this country needs right now. IMO Ron Paul had the best ideas to come forth from anybody I've heard in a long time, but there's just no way he's going to win. Romney has some great ideas too. He also shows the leadership skills and
values that America needs now. He's not going to be in the pocket-books of big oil execs like Bush is. He wants to focus on alternative fuels, strengthening our borders, get America out of the financial mess we're in, etc. You should listen to the speech he made this morning when he announced he was dropping out... it really was impressive, yet shocking and sad when he said he was dropping out.
