Zanchief wrote:No, but if you legally immigrated to France but had a strong accent, would you think it rude if a restaurant had a sign that said "This is France: WHEN ORDERING PLEASE SPEAK FRENCH!".
Of course you would.

I think the fact that you claim to have knowledge about both current and past immigrants just proves how eager you are to rewrite history to have it mesh without your pessimistic view of people (mostly foreign).

You really have no clue what goes on down here, do you?

personally i wouldn't be offended in the least if i visited another country and they had a sign requesting you speak their native language. if i was struggling to learn french and couldn't go to a restaurant and order in french, I'd just make a sandwich at home myself. eating out is a privilege and a luxury, it's not a necessity.. i mean if they were going into an immigration office and they had a sign that said that, it'd be totally different imo.
we're talking about a sandwich shop here, and i saw that shop on food network actually.. it's super fast paced, really long line, more like a kiosk than a restaurant really - you just go and say with or without.. it's not like a long complex menu. you can watch the 5 people in front of you order and get the gist. honestly, if you can't learn the 2 words and get offended by that, you're a little over the top easily offended.
i'm all for immigration to wherever you want to live (hi, i have my own immigrant) - i don't care where you want to live, i think you should be able to live there if you're a law abiding citizen - however, i also fully believe that no matter where you want to live, if you desire to live there enough to actually pack up and move for whatever reason you want to live there, then the country should be of enough import to you to adapt to the culture. if you don't want to adapt to the culture, why do you want to live there? you can have your own culture where you already are.

You know, we have immigrants here too, many of them. You know what I do if I speak to one that has trouble with English (or French). I take another 10 seconds out of my day to make sure they understand. I don't treat them like monsters.
Which do you think it more conducive to creating a productive member of society?
