Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

Postby Naethyn » Thu Oct 02, 2008 2:25 pm

I moved into a new house yesterday. Our old place had to be cleaned. There were quite a few scuffs on the walls. After doing some research I found a guy suggesting Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. So I went to walmart thinking wow I'm probably going to regret listening to someone on a random forum... but I have no idea what else to try so what they hell. They are a $1.96.

Long story short, This shit rocks. I've never seen anything like it. It cleans ANYTHING. Highly recommended for any type of scuff, paint, floor, cleaning. It's amazing, just add water.

Magic eraser for sure.

I love those. They're great for taking of crayon and marker off the walls, too. Thank goodness the kids have outgrown doing that....

you guys remember when I sued my old landlord for trying to hold my deposit?

I used those magic erasers for scuffs from chairs or whatever...and she complained that it took the paint off the wall.

what a bitch. so glad we won that.

I love these things too! They came out at the tail end of my professional house cleaning days. Assuming they are too good to be true, I researched and found a few concerned posts online who said they were poison to pets and sensitive folk. I am about the most chemically sensitive person there is, and that is WHY I use these things. In several years of use I have no skin reaction whatsoever. Here's the "kid burn" summaries and analyses, if you're interested:

    http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/b ... r-burn.htm

They do wear out and get crumbly. Don't try to be a frugal zealot like me, toss them! It's worse to clean up the crumbles than to pay the extra buck for new ones =p Not that anyone else tries to be that frugal...

My favorite uses for them are cleaning that mineral crap off of chrome fixtures (if it's really bad, chisel off with a good quality flat blade screwdriver first), and cleaning up stainless steel pans that have burned on oil. They also clean grout really well. Baking soda is another wonder cleaner, use it as a gentle abrasive for anything greasy.

Wow, I am a total house cleaning dork >< Good thing I quit that job!

    PS: RIP Mr Clean!

This really works? Even with the most hardcore de-greaser I've ever used, where I had to dilute it and still wear a mask when I worked with it, i couldn't make a fucked pan look new

well... it perhaps depends on how far gone it is? I got an all-clad 12" skillet for my birthday a couple years ago and it got that yucky oil stuff on it. Took me til a couple months ago to think to try the Eraser on it. I can't get it ALL off, but I keep plugging away at it! It's nearly all gone now. Go me. It also works very well on pyrex for getting those stubborn bits off. And if you keep your tea kettle on the burner all the time, and it gets splattered and gross because you no longer see things that are in front of your face every day? yeah, depending on what's in my hand when I see it, I'll either use baking soda, or Mr Eraser. Baking soda works on lots of things that you'd think would never get clean, either.

The other great degreaser I use is called Red Juice from the Clean Team. It is not smelly, but it DOES give me a skin reaction if I don't wash after cleaning with it. Yeah, I really should wear gloves.

If you get really desperate, you might consider a Pumie. It's a pumice stick that never scratches porcelain (sinks etc) but I never tried it on stainless steel.

I can't use any of the hardcore cleaners. "Normal" cleaners (like Windex or Comet or any of those) I can't use either, due to smells and skin reactions. But between baking soda, red juice, and a Pumie I cleaned nearly everything when I did pro house cleaning. Add the magic erasers and microfiber cleaning cloths, and you've got a very effective non-toxic cleanup kit.

Try the Eraser on your pan and see what happens? It WILL disintegrate, so be prepared for that and use a strainer in your sink so it doesn't all go down the drain ><

we just had this gnarly cleaning solution when i worked at the bar. even if you diluted it 10x and you caught a whiff of 1/100th of a loose cloud of it it'd make you choke on your breath. it was the most ridiculous stuff i've ever used on a regular basis.... but man you spray that on the hood screens and the grease literally washes off, hands-free. it was great til you accidentally breathed it and thought you were going to die... i got a nice full breath of it on my first day because i didn't honestly think anything could ever be that hardcore. and now i imagine that's what the beginning of a gas chamber execution feels like

if you have allergic reactions to normal household cleaners, i'll recommend Citrasolv, but you probably already know about it.... citric acid cleans pretty well. i'd say it cleaned nearly as well as that insane chemical stuff i was using, but i did have to scrub a little bit heh
