Central Valley is the armpit of CA. If you go an hour west you'll be around San Francisco and there's tons to do there.

Yeah, that's the central valley for you. Just think, places like Bakersfield are worse. As Jay said though, if you can take the time to drive into the bay area proper, and head into SF, Berkeley, or even down south to Santa Cruz, you'll find it's verrrry different.

Yeah, San Fran is a lot of fun. Berkeley has the Gourmet Ghetto which several blocks of just amazing food (Sushi in particular is my favorite there). Sacramento and Davis have some nice places to hang out as well and if you go further into the east bay, Walnut Creek is sexy. Further south there's Daly City which has a poker room that Phil Hellmuth plays at regularly and San Jose/Gilroy has a very happenin Chinatown.

In & Out is the best fast-food burgers around, 'tis true, but there are dedicated non-fast-food burger places with much better burgers than In & Out. The other problem with In & Out is their fries are not very good unless you get them RIGHT out of the fryer. You should consider getting them Animal style instead, they're much better that way.

Just as examples of better burger places: SF has Joe's Cable Car burger, San Jose has a place called St. John's, there's a local mini-chain in the south bay and Palo Alto called Kirk's Steakburgers, and since Jay mentioned Davis, there's a place in Davis called Murder Burger that was pretty damn awesome.

I know its not close but if anyone ever finds their way to San Diego, you must try this burger joint called Hodad's in Ocean Beach.

I don't get the love for In & Out. I have eaten once at 4 different locations, 3 in LA and one here in Tucson. Each time it was so disgusting I didn't finish eating. And I can stomach some pretty gnarly food too. :dunno:

One interesting fact about In & Out is that it is a privately held company, and the owning family are extremely devout Christians. As a result, they actually print bible verse numbers on all of their packaging. For example, if you look on the underside of the cups, you can see it printed on the inside of the bottom rim. They don't print out the whole verse, just like john 3:15 or something akin to that.
