There was already trepidation among some free agents about coming to Dallas because of the Mavs' tendency to shop everyone in trades except Dirk Nowitzki. Mark Cuban's reluctance to guarantee Nash more than four years and $36 million, after years of free spending, rocked the industry. If he was set on giving Nash no more than a four-year contract, Cuban could come to regret not offering $50 million-plus for that span ... an offer Nash says he would have taken.

Two sources inside the Nets organization told the New York Daily News that while the team has discussed trading Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks, no deal is in the works at this time.

The sports talk guy said that Kidd in Dallas with 'decent' (read: not necessarily PERFECT) performance from our new and old Centers would get us a ring. The two NBA people up at work agree with that statement... the Spurs and Laker's fans, I mean... they both know NBA well.

Interesting. I disagree with that. I don’t believe Jason Kidd is the answer to anything. He is a better passer then Steve…he doesn’t NEED to score…we have Dirk and Finley for that, and Marquis has proven he can score. Even if our Centers play ‘decent’, Timmy D down in San Antonio will eat us alive. I think Kidd would make us better then we are but not at the expense of Howard.

The way the Nets owner is playing lately... I think he'd be just as interested in all of our remaining picks as he would be with Howard. Seriously... I mean, he traded Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles and all he got in return was 3 2nd round picks and 1 first-round. For those two players? Holy crap, what a fool. All of that just to avoid paying luxury tax. If he traded Kidd for Walker and 3 picks, not only would he get out of ANY luxury tax this year... he'd basically dominate the draft next year. Who needs Howard when you have the entire graduating class of 2005?
Aaand... Duncan isn't officially a Center =p. Neither is K.G. They certainly play like it... evensomuch as to take away minutes from their 'real' centers, but they still don't stay deep in the middle like centers are supposed to. So... we can still play our stickier 'bigger' forwards like Howard, Najera and (hopefully) Kurt Thomas on Duncan. He'd still score 30, grab 15 and block 5... but that's better than allowing him to... to... ah hell, he's not going to be stopped by anyone in the West, why try? Detroit and Indiana are the only teams that can stop K.G. and Duncan offensively. Defensively, Dallas can hang with both of them (off the boards, anyway). Brent Barry... however... scares me in San Antonio. All of the sudden, Parker isn't their only outside presence.

If we can keep these players…Dirk, Finley, Booth, Daniels, Howard, Najera, Avery, Harris…and then trade/sign any of the others…for Thomas, Kidd, Dampier. Wow…could you imagine that…

Hah... Imagine THIS lineup:
Starters:
Jason Kidd - PG
Marquis Daniels - SG
Michael Finley - SF
Dirk Nowitzki - PF
Erick Dampier - C
-------------
Devin Harris - PG rotation
Josh Howard - SF rotation
Kurt Thomas - PF rotation
Booth, Didier Ilunga-Mbenga, Pavel Podkolzin - C rotation
Bradley, Najera, Avery Johnson - Roleplayers.
That's a conf-championship team. Good Chemistry = Championship team. Of course... getting Dampier AND Kidd AND Thomas AND keeping Howard would take Harry Potter-esque wizardry. Meaning... not gonna happen...

That is a Championship team. That team would win the Championship this year.
It can happen! I’ll make some phone calls.

Now... take Dampier out of the mix... put Pavel Podkolzin, Didier Ilunga-Mbenga and Calvin Booth as our centers. Keep Jason Kidd as the playmaker... let Marquis keep driving the lane like Evil Kineivel (fearless)... Dirk rain in his "can't-miss" 15-footers... Finley doing his normal jack-of-trades fadeaways, postups, dunks and 3pointers... our weak-center role wouldn't be that bad because the other teams already have WAY more than enough to concentrate on.. Do you know that last year, Kidd played a full-strength Orlando... grabbed 16 rebounds, scored 16 points, dished 9 assists, stole 3 balls and even blocked 2 shots? That's the sort of 'Bibby' that we need.
It's weird... I mean, I've always respected him... in that, "I hate him" kind of way... but the idea of having him back in Dallas with Dirk is REALLY starting to grow on me.
Althroughout the Shaq trading days... I kept hearing Randy Galloway say, "you can't expect to GET a superstar without trading one of your own." Meaning... there's no way we can get Shaq without trading Dirk. He had all these examples of huge blockbuster trades... the only time a SUPERstar is traded is by either completely scrapping your roster (Miami for Shaq, Houston for T-Mac) or trading away your OWN superstar. He then listed his top 12 superstars, which I'll paraphrase with my own list...
Shaq
T-Mac
Kobe
Dirk
Kidd
Jermaine O'Neil or Ben Wallace, depending on your preference. Not both though.
Bibby
Yao
Duncan
K.G.
Iverson
Peja or Webb... if you have faith... if not, Lebron because of his market.
If you want K.G., you have to have a Yao to offer, or fuggetaboutit. If you want Dirk, bring the Duncan or get out of our house. We 'possibly' have the opportunity to BREAK both rules. We could get another superstar, without giving up our own - without scrapping our whole team. That alone should make sense of the deal.
