I don't get it. The court shot down and won't certify some pencil-and-paper test because you shouldn't be issuing promotions based on something that retarded. So nobody complains except white people that didn't get what they wanted. Surprised? I'm not

are you really banking on that tho? it looks like a latino passed the test. and what're the statistics from old tests? who sits on the city council that de-certified it? minorities or all white people? what if they're simply trying to make the fire department grow up and out of old methods?

i agree with the judge that dissented. i would've questioned the fairness of it and to be quite frank, the necessity of it. i seriously find it hard to believe that they'd de-certify a test because no black people passed it. i almost find it outside the laws of reality for something like that to happen in New England

Honestly, it doesn't surprise me that the tests would have been tossed when only 1 minority had passed. Had they not tossed out the tests, there would have been an uproar from the minorities about not getting promoted because they were not white. I have no problem with minorities, but minority groups are definitely an issue. They stop comparing individuals, they compare race. The specific qualifications of the individuals has become less important then their race.

The fire departments are one of the hardest hit by this. There are a significant number of under qualified people employed because of their race, while more qualified people are not due to these groups. I dont know about you, but if my house is on fire, I will feel better being saved by the best qualified firefighters not the most ethnically diverse firefighters.




Oh and New Haven CT really does have the best pizza.

Also, in your mind is it ok to throw out fair and unbiased promotion tests because one didn't get the results they wanted based on race?

I would have no problems if the city that de-certified these results did so because they felt they were unfair to minorities. They didn't do that, they tossed them because they feared lawsuits.

There is still a need to ensure fairness, but it should be fair to all.

You made a good point. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I just don't read NT a lot.

Certain words are racist. They are used as stereotypes to demean and are not acceptable.

One is certainly welcome to use them, but that doesn't change the fact in a country less than 50 years out of segregation they should be spurned and those who use them chastised appropriately.
