are you stupid? He's been found not guilty. The chick was after money from the get go. Who goes and fucks her boyfriend AFTER getting raped and before going the hospital? That's exactly what she said it was. They were making out, she got "scared" or whatever and tried to stop it twice. She got up to leave and he blocked the door, put his hands on her throat and bent her over a chair. He didn't beat her up or snatch her off the street or anything. Legal analyst Craig Silverman called the case "an unmitigated disaster for true victims of sexual assault."

This is the real problem with shit like this.

"She (the victim) assigned him (Bryant) that isolated room, she snuck away from her job to go meet with him, she engaged in expansive flirtation, she went in, showed him her intimate tattoos, engaged in intimate kissing and hugging, and when he took it further and she protested, he stopped.

"Add what we learned since about Mr. X and his DNA," Silverman said, referring to the DNA of another man found on the victim's underwear, "and you have an acquittal."

"There was a rush to arrest him (Bryant), vilify the guy, then sit back and gripe when all the facts turned out against them. The woman was not asked the tough questions. They (the prosecution) didn't want to test the scientific evidence - why? because they wouldn't like the results.

Those are exerpts from the Denver Post article.

The woman filed the civil case in Denver federal court this month, seeking at least $75,000 in damages from Bryant.

Exerpt about the civil case. It was also stated in the other Kobe thread that Colorado has a maximum dollar amount that can be awarded in cases like these. 1 million if I am remembering myself correctly. I don't feel like looking it up.

That discovery charge was the final nail in the coffin for this case, no way the prosecution could've recovered from that.

a.) not text messaged my friends (There is no factual proof this happened)

From a rather long news article that rehashed everything all over again

To win the case, the woman's attorneys would have to prove by a "preponderance of the evidence" that Bryant forced himself on the woman and caused physical and emotional injury. That is, they would have to show that it was more likely than not that he committed the offense.

In a criminal case, prosecutors would have had to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, a more difficult standard.

Damages for pain and suffering and other non-economic losses in Colorado civil cases generally cannot exceed $733,000, though damages for economic losses and physical impairment or disfigurement are not capped. Punitive damages cannot exceed the compensatory award and can be given only if the allegations are proved beyond a reasonable doubt.

The woman's attorneys, John Clune and Lin Wood, said Wednesday no payment was made to their client and no settlement negotiations have taken place. They were in a meeting Thursday and did not return calls.

I agree with Tossica on this. It's extremely common for women who have been raped to distance themselves from the event and even more common for women to simply not report the crime for fear of being labeled a whore, reliving the experience in a public forum, etc. It's also common for a woman to freeze up and not physically defend herself in a rape situation.

I think if she was actually after money, she would have continued with the trial - it's not like she didn't know he was a public figure.

I don't know the details in this case as I don't really give a fuck about sports, but the bottom line if there is even a hint about the consensuality of a sexual event, the guy better back the fuck off. I mean really, what's so hard about getting consent from somebody you're about to have sex with?

I think rapists should be publicly castrated and then force fed said parts.

And yeah, I'm sure he raped her given he all but came out and said so.
