awesome so far, the new campaign map is far better than the old.
aside from that, probably the coolest addition i've come across is the retraining tab. now you have a new seperate que for retraining, that doesn't have a limit to the # it can do in one turn(that i've seen). and you can continue to train new units at the same time.
the battles are still bewildering to me, not so much the turbo-speed, but just how decisive they are. had 1000+ of my men vs 1000+ gauls, only 1 man of theirs survived. a battle like that in medieval i would probably have been lucky to kill 300. although with captures the total men they'd lose would have been much higher depending on how much cavalry i had. but just about always a good portion of the enemy would escape to pester me for a few turns
it would have been cool to be able to either enslave or ransom captured troops, especially in the early game to boost your cities pop or get some needed income
i have been playing this game non stop since i bought it this game is badass i cant get enough of it i havent tryed the multiplayer yet so i will let you know Fin.
i finally hit the marius reforms, so time for real legions. it seems to arrive the turn you finish building an imperial palace(size 24,000 city's governer's building)
try this thread for some cool files to mod rome. they slow down the kill rate considerably, to 1/2, 1/3, or 1/10, so the battles are far more managable and last longer. no more infantry destroying each other within 20 seconds.
and this file which lets you turn off the battle timer.
No I hate taking care of the menial not-fun bullshit that large RTS/war simulation games have.
Starcraft/Warcraft is all easy micro management, I'm talking about large-scale shit like Caesar line of games (theyre old but the micro management was tedious, battles purely made up for it)
