Saying eq2 is the same as wow is like saying counterstrike is the exact same as quake three or any other first person shooter. You're looking at it like an mmorpg is an mmorpg, like every single one is same. Like Tikker said, personal preference though.

I don't know if thats what it actually is but I work at a science and tech institute with 2 caves and a cube that are connected to other caves and cubes. they have a BIG pipeline.

Just because you are stuck downloading animal porn at 14.4k is no reason to cry.

The only problem is the computers in the lab I work in suck since we do Electrophys and Mass spec.

so at home, great computer, DSL.
at work, lots of crap computers, near instant downloads.

I work at an ISP and have never heard of it, nor could I find reference to a T4 on google either

Maybe it's more of a slang term, because up until now I've never heard it either.

OC3, T3, T1

Sectionals of each etc...

But no T4 in my memory.

the computer guys in the basement and on the 3rd floor often hike up their pants, bulge out thier chests, and talk tough about the t4. Like I said, I don't knwo what constitutes it, but I do know that the 3 buildings that it servers make the server for the whole rest of campus look like a joke.

They tell me this until I spill caustic chemicals on them or wipe human or slug remains on them.

Just because you work at an ISP doesn't mean a whole lot. We never dealt with anything larger than a T1 on our side, however I've been friends with the senior members of the OSU IT department and I have done a few private office internet installs, plus an uncle who works for a major hardware firewall company who likes to chit chat with me about work and constantly teaches me new stuff about large business connectivity solutions.

I worked as a network engineer for 6+ years and never once ran across a T4, even when I was doing things like setting up connections for Internap, when I worked at Mindspring before Earthlink bought them. After T3's you started into the big bandwith side of things.

Suffice it to say, if they DO have a T4, they're one of the only people, anywhere that do. Same thing with the T2s shown in that link. They may exist theoretically, but on a practical basis, not used much, if ever.

T4 is faster then OC3 by a pretty big margin.

If "fiber to the curb" isn't available where you are, a T4 might be a solution if you just need more raw speed.

/shrug, the ISP I work at tends to be quite a bit ahead of most of North America in terms of technology, and my current position puts me in position to oversee our IP, VoIP, and video networks

I think I've got enough background/experience/knowledge to say that T4's are probably hella rare, and a probably the equivalent of BETAMAX in the trunking business

T4 is most definetly a real connection, I'm suprised that more people in the field have not heard of it. One of the first things we went over in my Networking course was the variety of T lines.

A particular designation for a fast form of connection, by phone line but usually fiber optic, to the Internet. It is the backbone of the Internet and of major corporation systems. T4 bandwidth is roughly 274 mbps per user with the capability of many simultaneous (between hundreds and thousands, depending on what each connection is doing and how much of the resource they are using) "conversations" or connections within; it can also alternatively handle 4032 voice channels. T4 supports voice, data and video at different frequencies on the same connection. T4 is a "full time connection" as opposed to dial-up. This technology is also known as T-4 and DS4. See BPS, T3 and T1. The European equivalent is an E4.
