That said, I'd love to see the liberals get tossed out. It'd be better for Canada and the U.S.

You know, the deal that made it illegal for canadians to put import taxes on american goods, yet allowed americans to continue to tariff canadian goods, sounds like a great deal!

That deal had exceptions and thats a narrow view of it. Canada would WIN in that agreement, anyway you slice it. Its different from NAFTA, but neither deal 'hurt' Canada at all.

The conservatives would make Canda more economically strong, create more opportunities, and by doing so help the US since the gaggle of professionals trying to escape your Country wouldn't have to anymore.

It's probably too much to hope for, though, so we'll continue to be flooded by Canadians, both professional and business minded who really want to work hard and to succeed, versus the socialists who do not understand economics and real free trade.

Given Canada's terrible corruption, this view pushed by the Canadian media does not surprise me at all.

It was another week of records for California and U.S. gasoline prices as costs at the pump in several cities jumped by more than 10 cents a gallon, the federal government said Monday.

California's average price for self-serve regular gasoline jumped 12.8 cents in the last week to $2.592 a gallon, the second consecutive week that the state's gas average has reached a fresh high. California motorists are paying 43.5 cents more than they were a year ago.

The average U.S. retail price for regular-grade gasoline rose 6.3 cents to $2.28 a gallon, the fourth consecutive weekly record, according to the government's weekly survey of 800 service stations. The U.S. average is 46.3 cents higher than a year ago.

The U.S. average is forecast to rise more and reach a monthly peak of $2.35 a gallon in May, according to the Energy Information Administration, the Energy Department's analytical arm.

The Canadian people are more progressive on cultural issues than the US is. That's just a reflection of the two countries. Obviously there are variations across Canada, where Albertans are generally more conservative. But consider that of the four federal political parties, three of them are left of center, and polled 64.8% of the vote nationally versus 29.8% for the Tories.

Remember that the Liberals have governed Canada for something like 55 of the last 70 years. Ever since the Tories got taken over by the nutbar/fundy Reform Party, they made themselves even less electable as a national party. Only when they return to mainstream politics can the Tories expect to have a shot at governing as anything other than a backlash party.

Even if the Tories win a minority government, they won't win more than a couple seats in Quebec (if any). The Tories would get in for a few months, then get turfed when they tried to pass a right-wing budget by the NDP, Liberals and Bloc Quebecois. They would need to win a majority government to hold power any amount of time, and they simply won't win crap in Quebec - the backlash against the Liberals will go to the Bloc, not the Tories. Ontario will split, with rural ridings going Tory and urban staying largely Liberal. BC might swing Tory or go more NDP.

Considering the Liberals have been running a budget *surplus* for several years at this point it's kind of funny having Americans criticize them for being profligate.
