Alito Appointment

Post by Kramer »

So I find that I am annoyed with the Alito placement:

NOT because I think he is unqualified or a crakchead or anything or even because he is a strong conservative....

Primarily it is ideological... I find that having a court of seven that is equal and balanced politically and ideiologically is better than one that is skewed one way or the other.... Not perfectly but one that attempts to allow the left and right to be heard and I think the appointment of a strong conservative in the place of a judge that isn't is frustrating....

your thoughts please.

Not really, though I do think it would be admirable for someone to not be such a puppet and declare that they value balance rather than some thin party line when dealing with something like an appointment that would have ramifications for DECADES.

like I sadi though, it is ideological and probably not applicable in the real world unfortuneately, maybe not...

The job of the court is to decipher the constitution and determine if various laws out of line... NOT to set political agendas. Alito is more than qualified for the job.

Why would you prefer a court of seven?

But... Alito doesn't place N.O.W. above the constitution.. Therefore, he must be bad!

I'd prefer the court interpret laws and be constitutional scholars. With Alito the court is fairly balanced with a variety of opinions that will hopefully start to erode their recent bouts of trying to override the legislative branch in a manner not befitting the judicial branch.

um. i agree the job is not about politics and that he is qualified. i stated that in my first remark genuises. I am talking people's ideas and ways that they interpret law, world view, religious orientation, all have something to do with how they will lean.

and if you have a nation divided over an issue like abortion or whatever and you know that you can stack a court in favor of what you want or your party wants then i think that is not cool..

i know Alito is qualified. it is not about him individually. but i am sure i will still be labeled a liberal by the pseudo-intellectual militants on the board... so flame away...

well, there are ammendments to it and the application of the constitution must always change with the society in which it is interpreted, not necessarily to some extreme manner but it could be argued that it is "living"....

        how do you define living?

So do you think Kerry would appoint 3 people with different views in the Supreme Court if he were pres? :umno:

probably not, which is why i said it is probably not realistic.... but why would it matter what Kerry would do, he isn't president :dunno:

i don't think their is some savior... i am not a freaking liberal who thinks that a politician is the answer...

i am wondering if you think it is better to have a balanced court or if it worries you that a court seems to be stacked in favor of one way of thinking as opposed to the other.... or do you think that there is nothing to worry about...

He's doesn't have to "support" abortion through his personal views in order to bring a sense of balance to the table. Liberals don't seem to understand this.

cause we all know the judges never ever bring their personal values and beliefs into their judgements. :jerkit:

there should be something that resembles balance in the supreme court, but oh well...democrats fucked it up for themselves.

This latest episode, or perhaps I should say meltdown of the left just cements, in my mind, that they see the Supreme Court as means to push their agenda.

I want someone who will rule by the constitution. I honestly dont think there is anything to worry about with Alito. His stand points were all by rule of law not by his opinions.

What I dont like was the dog and pony show that was put on. No where in the constitution does it say they can grill some poor bastard for 1 week before voting yes or no. The supreme Court justices are picked by the president and approved by a yes or no vote. that is it.

Alito is far more middle ground then alot of the other justices that were in Bush's pick list. for the most part he is what would be considered a libertarian.

On a more humorous side note...Ole Judge Sauters house is going up for a public vote for the acquisition to be turned into a hotel. gotta love turnabouts. He spearheads iminent domain...and some smartass from CA might grab his home for' the betterment of the community" gotta love it.
